Build quality is good for the money. Go on youtube and look at some how to set up banjo videos. It's not that difficult. Tighten the head and new strings is all it took to get a great sound.
Washburn B9 Banjo Sunburst
.Overall I am happy with the purchase. I am a professional musician who likes to learn various instruments and the banjo was next on my list. For a beginner/learner it is great. Be advised though, I highly recommend you take it to a shop to have it set up, unless you have experience with instrument setup. Out of the box, the bridge is not set (so as the head isn't damaged in shipping I'm sure), the action is high and both the saddle and nut(s) needed adjusting to get rid of fret buzz and make it more playable.
If you are a beginner, you can't go wrong for the price. I imagine I will eventually want one of higher quality, but it suits my needs for learning nicely at this time.

.5 Star for the price.
Guitarist learning banjo and the darn thing has yet to go out of tune

.I bought this banjo for my husband for his birthday and he absolutely fell in love with it. he has never owned a banjo before and he is very eager to learn on this one. it came without a scratch and i am very pleased. however it is not shipped very carefully. it was shipped with just a few clumps of paper and a sheet over it. but it didn't have a scratch. and it is a very nice banjo.

.Great fast neck. Only needed to raise neck 1/8 inch where it joins rim for lower action, tighten head and switch to a No Knot tail piece for a good mellower tone and playability. Mine came with a Reversed Remo coated head with the smooth side up which is good for practicing without worries about rubbing the coating off. I like it more than some that I've spent hundreds more on! The Washburn case they sell for the B-9 is a deluxe archtop version with five latches. Not as loud and cutting as other premium bluegrass banjos, but that works fine for practice at home. I'll be keeping this one. Guitar tuners hold tune well and are easier to fine adjust than planetary type.

.I bought this instrument as a Christmas present for my son. I have been playing for over 25 years but am new to the banjo. It has great tone and stays in tune well. The intonation is good too. Good instrument for the price.

.I've never played any string instrument before but I wanted to learn something new. I read lots of recommendations and reviews online and found that this banjo is one of the most highly recommended for beginners. Everything the recommendations said is true. This is a great banjo, especially for the price. I bought mine used and saved even more money because it still looks great. After I got the banjo I got on youtube and started watching some of the instruction videos. Now I can play some very basic rolls and cords. Only thing I'm wondering is how long my fingers will continue to hurt from practicing so much.
