This is a distinctive all-gold model with Frost Gold finish, matching gold headstock, gold hardware and single-ply "gold mirror" plastic pickguard. The one-piece maple neck has a "modern C" profile, a matching Telecaster headstock and a 12"-radius rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets.
The custom-designed humbucking pickups use a special dual-volume setup with the bridge pickup control in the front position and the neck pickup control in the back position (John 5 prefers this setup because he spends much time giving the bridge pickup a workout). Rapidly toggling the upper-bout three-way pickup switch gives you 5's signature "kill" effect by turning off the neck pickup volume and leaving the bridge control full up. Case sold separately.

Ok let me start by saying this guitar is not just a beginner, but it will hang with any hard rock, classic rock or contemporary country the most experienced hands can throw at it. I own both the frost gold and the black and chrome model and they are both really well made guitars BUT be aware mine both had fixable wiring flaws that prevented the stutter-kill toggle effect from properly working as advertised because I could not turn off completely one volume knob or the other without some volume creeping through, therefore diminishing the effect. I re-soldered the lead(colored red and green respectively) pickup wire on each pot from the first prong to the middle prong and now the effect is flawless. There is definately some miscomunication somewhere concerning wiring, entirely fixable, but, the available wiring schematic is also wrong, so I don't blame the actually worker for the flaw. If you can fix this, or get one without this flaw, you may just have the tele that you have been looking for because of its's uniqueness in any price range. 12 inch radius = no fret outs ala Gibson/Eric Johnson. No tone capacitor interferance ala Van Halen, 22 frets ala Eric Clapton/Van halen/Eric Johnson. Also for enquiring minds, the control pots are fully shielded with shielding paint, the pots are full size Alpha and the hardware is as solid as any Fender I have seen (and I have seen many). In conclusion, With a slight correction, this is my go-to tele.

.I bought this guitar after much consideration looking around the internet. I happened to luck out when my local music store had one in stock, and I pretty much fell in love right there. The fretboard was amazing and the stock pickups are phenomenal as well. And I'm coming from a Schecter Hellraiser and many other metal guitars. This guitar not only does all that, but it just feels better doing it. It can handle anything.

.Read reviews of damaged pick guards , cracked by the screws that hold it in place , Iliked the gold color , so I tried in good faith to get this j5 ,,but it to was with a cracked pick guard. So I asked for a return shipping label ,over a week , still waiting , ordered the black model with the stainless pick guard , it is back ordered for a month.
