The Martin 000-15M Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar is a modern marvel steeped in historical vibe. Giving it that old school feel is a traditional 000-14 body with Old style 18 with 30 Style mult-color rope rosette, a modified low oval with Performing Artist taper neck, an East Indian rosewood standard belly bridge, and solid headstock. Taking it into modern times is a 2-1/8" cutaway and Fishman F1 Aura pickup system with 3-band EQ and tuner to accurately represent the guitar's naturally great tones when you plug in. Other great appointments include a diamond and squares pearl fingerboard inlay, two-way adjustable truss rod, Grover nickel V97-18NA StaTite tuners, and a faux tortoise pickguard.

I wanted an all Hog Martin and was looking for a 00015e retro when I stumbled across this thing in the store. The PA neck profile is very fast, nice satin finish. Would have preferred an ebony fretboard, but the Indian rosewood matched the palette nicely. The modern features of the grover tuners, the cutaway, and the Aura audio system make this a pretty versatile, modern instrument. These GPCPA shapes remind me more of a Lowden than Martin, but it's a comfortable size. Would have preferred a shorter scale than the standard 25.4, but I can live with it. It has a very sweet, balanced tone. This is one of those Martin 'custom' specials that only the big dealers can negotiate, you cannot find this model listed in their off the rack series. I passed it by looking at stuff online, but in the store it caught my eye, and after taking it down and checking it out, I realized it was a sort of hidden gem. Not a well known model, but a great value for the price. Workmansip is impeccable, but the factory setup was set to extremes. The action was much higher than I usually expect from a Martin, and the saddle is going to have to be taken down, considerably, before the sweet spot is located. I realize this is sort of a Martin philosophy--let the user set it up the way they like it, but really, this was pretty extreme. I know some players have expressed some concern about the shift away from Honduran Mahogany towards African timbers, but according to the specialists, Sipo/Utile is the African wood that is the most like Honduran Mahogany, and you would never be able to tell by looking or listening that it is anything else.
