At the time I bought this amp, I was looking all over the place for what would do the job of a small PA system. I was really getting interested in playing out, which I had never really done prior. I needed something with enough power for an open-mic type setting, and good sound quality; I've always been picky about my tone.
After doing plenty of research, homework, and listening to both on the internet, I narrowed it down to an Acoustic AG60 or the Fishman Loudbox Mini. The Fishman would be significantly lighter and smaller - overall more portable, while the Acoustic would have been much bulkier and more difficult to transport. The Acoustic AG60 was able to boast twice as many inputs, but this didn't make up for the portability in my situation.
After making my decision, I ordered the Loudbox, and the day it arrived at my door, I was shocked at the weight. The amplifier was incredibly small and light, and I couldn't believe when I plugged it in. Rated at 60 watts, I've got to say, this thing is loud. Appropriately named, I suppose. To put into context, I use this amp in jam situations regularly, and can even keep up with a light-hitting drummer. The tone of any acoustic instrument plugged through this amplifier is phenomonal. I've run all sorts of things through this: guitars, ukuleles, kalimbas, and a Shure SM58 for vocals - the result has never been short of outstanding. Both the instrument and vocal channels have crisp, clear tone, and even at high volumes I heard little to no distortion. The 6.5" speaker is not only surprisngly loud, but of impressive quality.
The equalization on the amp is very handy, when the tone of an acoustic instrument or of a singer's voice is coming through too muddy or too thin. There hasn't been one time the equalization didn't allow for a near-perfect reproduction of the acoustic qualities of any instrument I've tried. The reverb sounds excellent, and ranges from a very slighty sustain to a cavernous flood of sound. Additionally, the 1/4" instrument input channel has a very nice chorus effect. I'm very pick about my tone and effects, and use this chorus regularly.
More recently, I've also tried using the 1/8" jack located on the back of the unit for my iPod. I've recorded some backing tracks myself, run them back through the Fishman, and jammed along with them, and it's like falling back in love with the amp. It has never ceased to impress me, and each and every aspect from the sound quality, to portability, to EQ has been great and reliable.
Thank you Fishman!
Fishman Loudbox Mini PRO-LBX-500 60W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp Brown
.I've been playing acoustic-electric guitars for a lot of years at home, but recently started playing in public at smaller pub venues. I have studied for hours on what kind of a PA system to buy to accompany my Yamaha FG-470 dreadnought and Rainsong WS-1100 that I have been playing through a Fender Limited Edition Hot Rod Deluxe. I turned my nose up at the Loudbox Mini for several months before finally testing it out in the store, because it's so small. I was convinced once I played through it, that it was going to hold it's own, but if not, I always had the option of the DI output to plug into a larger PA. The first thing I noticed was how fantastic my guitars sounded through it. The Rainsong was very touchy on feedback through the Fender Hot Rod, even with the notch filter on the fishman preamp - but boy did it come alive through Loudbox Mini, and NO feedback even when I cranked the volume significantly. I play my Rainsong through the Loudbox Mini exclusively now.
The most impressive night I had with the loudbox mini was at a pub, that only had about 8 people in it when I started playing. A fellow musician had brought an extra mic with a 1/4" to XLR adaptor so I had two mics in the Loudbox Mini - it was sitting on a tall table - while using my Fender Hot Rod for my guitars. In a few hours the crowd grew to 50+ people and we had to turn up the volume to accomodate for all those bodies absorbing sound. I never had to turn the Master volume past the 2 o'clock position, the gain on both channels was set to about the 2 o'clock position as well. The sound was crystal clear through both mics (SM58 Beta and Audix OM2) and the reverb, set at about the 10 o'clock postion on both channels was perfect.
The Loudbox Mini is more than I ever expected to get for the money, and I would have bought it much sooner had I known how well it performed. I practice during the week at home and take it gigging on the weekend. I use the DI output to plug into larger PA's for bigger venues and it sits right next to me as a monitor. It's so small and light - a real pleasure traveling with it.
The features for what you pay are excellent, though I would like to see phantom power, and someone mentioned a stand jack to get it up higher - good idea. I set it on a table when I play at venues for better sound dispersion. The bottom line is that I can buy a seperate phantom power generator or small mixer with phantom power and more inputs, and a amp stand to get it off the floor. For the price, this is a fantastic value.
I did have the reverb/chorus effects quit working on my first unit after about a week. It was replaced without question which is excellent customer service. Even with that issue I still give it the highest marks for quality, because everything is put together so well and sounds so good.
I didn't buy this unit for a several months after looking at it because I just couldn't accept that a box that small would be good enough even for small venues. Boy was I wrong! I kept looking for something with more inputs, more power, biggers speakers to allow myself some flexibility. I was really surprised at what this combo amp is capable of.
Fishman Loudbox Mini PRO-LBX-500 60W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp Brown
.This is my first acoustic-electric amp (and Taylor Guitar) and I am impressed that the amplified sound imitates a guitar/mike setup so well. It sounds exactly like the guitar if you choose to adjust it that way and leaves options to play with. I bought this amp for home and family use and could not be more pleased.
Exactly as advertised. This amp has everything needed for my purposes in a small an lightweight package.
Very nice appearance and distortion free sound.
a few bucks more than the cheapies and gives excellent performance.
Fishman Loudbox Mini PRO-LBX-500 60W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp Brown
.This little amp is so awesome, and it is only 12 lbs! When most every venue mics your amp, why break your back lugging a huge stack around. This little amp has a great sound when I am plugging in my Tacoma acoustic and my SM58 mic for a little solo coffee house performance, or for a show with my band, Boxcar; where I plug into the house sound and use the little amp as my monitor. At home I rock out with my American Telecaster and it sounds great. It even gets quite loud too. The sound is great, though at really high volumes there is a little background noise. The reverb sounds pretty good, it is no Fender spring reverb tank, but it works fine. If I need that gorgeous fat reverb sound I change to my Fender Princeton Amp. Other than that, the amp is so light, versatile, and great sounding that I don't miss my old half-stacks and huge amps of my younger (more metal) days. This amp is definitely an improvement and I will highly recommend it to any one looking for an amp, and I will buy another one myself just to have around. Great amp.
Fishman Loudbox Mini PRO-LBX-500 60W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp Brown
. I bought this Fishman LBX 500 about a month ago. I had first bought a Behringer ACX 450 but due to weight restrictions, I had to return it. (you can see my review there) I knew Fishman was a quality product and the weight was right so that's what I went with. This is a high quality piece of equipment. The sound is great on the guitar side and teriffic on the vocal side. The richness that it gives your (my) voice is truly amazing. The only negative to this amp (in my opinion) is the lack of tone control of on the guitar side There is no EQ and the three tone control knobs don't quite do it for me. I play a 000 Martin without a pick and it is a little too bassy through this amp. With the Behringer, I seemed to be able to balance out the tone a little better.I certainly recommend this amp to anyone who needs this size and especially if you play with a pick. Even I get more out of the amp with a pick. I mentioned size: i've got an older Fender Acoustic Jr. (much bigger and heavier and more expensive) and there is little difference in the sound of these two amps. I don't think you'll regret buying this
Fishman Loudbox Mini PRO-LBX-500 60W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp Brown
.I purchased this amp three months ago for use at live gigs in small venues. I've used it every week, two nights/week since then and it has done the job very well. It's not a big system, but the sound quality for the size is astonishing .I'd never give it up in favor of hauling a full PA . This baby does the job and saves the back in the process.
Fishman Loudbox Mini PRO-LBX-500 60W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp Brown
.Well I have owned the Loud Box Mini for two years now and I love the unit! I must say that it does not cut the mustard on a loud stage. You know the situation I mean. Full band with electric guitars roaring you have to have this amp pointing right at you and even then, nope. So there is no amp headroom left for clarity.
However, in all other types of gigs it is a dream come true. Super clean sound of my guitar but much louder! My vocal sounds just like a decent PA at lower volumes (in-door gigs). The chorus effect only has two dialed-in sounds, but hey how many different chorus sounds do you need? I have used the Aux inputes to trigger effects and sounds from my Boss RC-2 pedal, very handy.
I was in the middle of a large festival gig last weekend and used the phase button to stop feedback. On that gig I used the amp as my floor monitor with the PA pushing 750 watts in the monitor speakers. Just used the DI on amp to send acoustic guitar only to the PA. Was not loud enough so I had to add my guitar to monitor mix and then of course that makes the acoustic guitar too loud for others in the band. Funny thing was that the solo musician who played before our band was using the LBX-600 (He knew)! I live in Medford Oregon and it was the old home of Custom Guitar's Friend so there are many savvy musicians here.
The single DI output is ok for small gigs (when your not recording) but causes any decent sound person fits cause they can't separate the lead vocal from the acoustic (so save your pennies and buy the 120w ver. With its two, channel DI's.) I am thankful each time I reach into the back of the car to pick up this amp. My back says thanks each time yours will too. Heck if you are under thirty maybe you should buy something heavy so you can have "back in my day" stories, but if not then buy this amp. I am now saving my money for the LBX-600. Which is only a little heavier than the Mini. Then I will give the Mini to my son (gosh, I wish I had had a Dad like me…) lol.
The final thing is this amp has gone up in price from when I bought it. When that happens, you know two things. One is Fishman has raised the price to keep quality up and two is all the working musicians out there know this is still great deal! I pride myself on buying the best gear for the lowest price. So buy it now or the next size up and start rocking it!
Fishman Loudbox Mini PRO-LBX-500 60W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp Brown
.I'm a musician of 30+ years and this little amp is as versatile as any I have ever owned! Extremely good fit and finish, excellent sound, and very compact and light. I have played my acoustic, my bass, and my electric guitar with distortion, all with vocals, thru it and it sounded great! These have all been in a medium sized Church and it worked very well. Larger venues may take a bigger amp but I'm going to try it out in a large Church. Praise God for such quality at a fair price!
Fishman Loudbox Mini PRO-LBX-500 60W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp Brown
.The Fishman Loudbox Mini PRO-LBX-500 60W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp is not really new. There are other acoustic amps out there that do the same thing very well. The older Trace Elliot units are "about" the same size and weight. The smaller UltraSound series are 'almost' comparable. Behringer ACX series makes one that's about the same size, cheaper and a little heavier. I found that the real difference between those units and the Loudbox Mini was in the cost/benefit ratio. This one's relatively affordable, reproduces spot-on acoustics from both channels and it's rated at 60 watts: the amp acts like a 60 watt amp without huge intervals in volume from one notch to the next. It's called a "combo" amp because it has two channels: one for guitar, the other for a mic, i.e. it provides for a 'combination' of uses. The guitar channel takes a TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) or 1/4" jack. The other channel requires an XLR (Extra Low Resistance) or "balanced" jack for a microphone. Like other two channel configurations, the Loudbox Mini is versatile and portable.I had opportunity to test this amp at a local music store the other day using a Takamine EG416S-VS New Yorker Acoustic Electric Guitar. It's a pretty little parlour guitar with the very basic Takamine TP4T electronics. The guitar did not have the sound quality of a Martin or a Larrivee but it does sound nice acoustically. The Loudbox Mini reproduced the sound of the guitar perfectly.....with everything flat. That ain't normal.Channel 2 gave equally crisp vocal reproduction without colour with everything set flat. There isn't a huge array of onboard effects. If you want those, it's best to go with a more expensive, heavier amp (Genz Benz, ULtraSound, Acoustic, etc.). I've found most of those effects (Alesis?) relatively benign on a lot of acoustic amps: you won't seriously use most of them and the most frequently used ones are reverb and chorus....which are on the Loudbox Mini. I'm sure the folks at Fishman did their homework to include these two effects.A little background.... I own UltraSound an AG-50DS2 and a Genz Benz Shenandoa Pro 200. These are great products but they're relatively spendy. Before purchasing an amp you'll need to know what you intend to do with it. Sixty (60) watts doesn't seem like a big number but it is a lot of power in anybody's home. It's great for quiet small venues. I remain completely impressed with the Loudbox Mini and I plan on replacing my UltraSound AG-50DS2 because the Mini is smaller and lighter and I don't need the features of the AG-50. I'd highly recommend the Loudbox Mini simply because of its sound quality, modest features and price point.
Fishman Loudbox Mini PRO-LBX-500 60W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp Brown
.For portability I haven't found anything that can beat the Fishman Loudbox Mini. The Roland AC 60 is great too (and has some handy features missing on the Fishman) but it costs more. Fender's Acoustasonics are excellent but are twice the size and weight. If the Fishman Loudbox Mini had automatic feedback suppression, phantom power, and a mic stand adapter it would be the perfect small venue acoustic amp. As it is you can't beat the quality or the price.
The Fishman Loudbox Mini does not have every possible bell and whistle but it has everything you need. The size is perfect! For small venues (bookstore, coffee shop, small restaurant) it has everything a solo artist needs. If you need to add more, a small mixer into the XLR channel can add a couple more channels. Volume would not be sufficient for an open outdoor area but for smaller spaces it is just right. The size is a definite plus. Amp in one hand, guitar case in the other, and a shoulder bag for mics, cables, etc., makes for a one-trip-from-the-car setup. This amp is well named: it is loud for it's size.
If I cold add anything it would be some sort of feedback detection and possibly a jack on the bottom so it could be mounted on a mic stand. It would also be nice if the XLR channel had phantom power so I can use a quality condensor mic. (No pickups in my resonator guitars.)
No complaints about quality. I have gigged with this amp several times and never had a problem.
Considering the features and the quality the price is about right. Fishman isn't giving it away but the price won't break a serious musician's budget. Once you've carried it from your car or upstairs a few times you will appreciate the weight-to-volume ratio.
