I've used these Fender 9050ML flatwound strings on a Precision bass and REALLY like them alot! These flats on a P-bass is THE tone heard on most hit records. These are equal to the reputable D'Addario XL Chrome flatwounds that are so popular. I've used both strings and, honestly, cannot tell a different in feel or tone--AT ALL! If you are looking to bring out that classic, warm, punchy, "boom" tone you heard on all those Motown hits--this is the string to get. Put these on and you'll be pumping out a full, warm tone with plenty of punch. These are stainless steel strings so they are a little bit stiffer than the nickel strings that you might be used to. Once you're used these, they feel softer and have plenty of pop to give you a good punch in your tone. Stainless strings are a little bit louder than nickel too, but you should still try to have your action as low as possible (without excess fret buzz) to make it easier on your fingers to deal with these strings. These strings will give you the warmth and punch that has been the standard bass tone on hit records from the 60's until today. For all-purpose, fits in nearly any style, "work horse" bass tone you can't go wrong with these, in my opinion. Flat wound strings like these on a Precision style bass is probably the most recorded bass tone in history. This is the tone you hear on almost ALL the chart toppers you've heard. I haven't tried these on a Jazz style bass or a Stingray style bass; don't know how they sound there. It's worth a try anyway no matter what type of pickups you have. These are very punchy and bold. These strings are just as quality as some more expensive strings.

.Was just starting to tune my new Fender 9050 ml's and the E string snapped. It's hard to say anything good about a set of strings, that I never got to do any playing on!

.If you have never tried Flats all I can say is do it now. You will not be sorry. These strings took my Fender P bass from "pretty good" to "Down right Impressive". No finger noise and sliding around is effortless. I don't know if I can go back to round wounds after trying these. I play classic rock and country with a 3 piece band and these strings fit the bill perfectly.

.Tried the flats on another dudes Jazz fretless and fell in love. Put them on my P-bass and can't get over the feel, or the tone!!! This was just want I needed. Will probably never go back to rounds. I can do things with this bass now that the original rounds couldn't do. Sounds like a bass should, deep, rich, warm, no zing! I can't stop playing!!!

.I have always used Fender strings after upgrading from Ernie Ball. This is the first time I use flatwounds and I absolutely love them. I don't think I'll ever goback to roundwound.
These string are smooth to the touch and as a result my playing has improved. Since they are smooth, they are easier to clean and stay clean longer.
The tone quality is very different from the other type of strings. It is a deepl, warmer sound and not so bright or metally sound. This may be a little wierd because I play punk, indie, and post-punk. So, this will give your bass a very different sound but it will add a layer of complexity to your sound. I love digging in and playign low on the finger board and making everything shake with added deep end because of the strings. I used to love playing high but now I'm all over the fretboard.
