Cordoba's 1/2 size Requinto 580 guitar is handmade with a solid cedar top and mahogany back and sides. The hand-inlaid all-natural wood rosette and Indian rosewood detailing distinguishes this model from other guitars in this price range. It is designed with the traditional 5-fan Torres style bracing to produce a rich Spanish sound in spite of its diminutive string length. It's ideal for children learning how to play nylon string guitars and also doubles as a convenient travel guitar for anyone else.

I searched dilligently on the net for smaller guitars, and now own several. The Cordobas across the board are the best, because they retain a wide nut and string spacing more like full sized classicals. They also generally list more specs than ALL the others, though you may have to search the net for all of them.
Many smaller guitars give practically NO details. Plus Cordoba offers much the same small guitars in a less expensive version with a spruce top instead of cedar- the "Protege" line. MANY smaller guitar makers make a cheap guitar for children, and while the Cordobas are probably the best choice for serious young students, adults will definitely find them more playable with wider nut and spacing. For several years now, they've included a truss rod- a nice feature in initial set-up and to compensate for neck bow as the guitar ages- therefore, beware buying used, and try to get this feature.
I have both a Requinto 580 and the 7/8 Dolce, and had shortly a 3/4 Cadete older model I got used and returned because the action was high and it was made before the truss rods were installed. ALL are fantastic sounding for their respective sizes- and the larger the size the fuller the sound.
The cedar tops are definitely a cut above anything else in volume and resonance, and I've always found the workmanship of Cordobas to be superb, although they push the "fragile" end- but the light materials are what sound the best!
The many manufacturers tend to call the same sized guitars different names- this Requinto 580 is almost as large as what some call 3/4, but is generally about as small as I personally would go. I have a 1/2 sized Oscar Schmidt which is very diminutive- a fun toy- but the Requinto is larger and more serious.
I personally would not tune it up to uke tension, but if I did, I'd probably put lighter guage strings of less tension- The smaller guitars often use harder tension strings to compensate for the floppiness the shorter scale brings to the equation.
The Cadete 3/4 is a very nice choice too and fuller sounding, while a 7/8 Dolce has a body as large as a lot of smaller classicals and sounds virtually as good as many full sized classicals- the smaller scales are an ease to play- quicker and the notes don't sustain as long- you'll find yourself playing faster- if you want to.
This is a very high quality small guitar, with a good resale value undamaged. I wish Cordoba would publish a photo with the models side by side, besides the statistics. If you want a smaller guitar, this Requinto 580 or the Cordoba Cadete 3/4 guitar are probably the best places to start, and if you just want something slightly more compact with a full sized sound, the Cordoba Dolce 7/8 might fit the equation. All are excellent!

.beware this is in fact a 3/4 size guitar not a 1/2 size. What a waste of time.
Dear Custom Guitar's Friend, Please make sure your products are labeled correctly... and maybe you should post a Guitar Scale length Chart (lengths can vary slightly) like the one below... it would truly help us parents with small kids
4/4 full size 24.75" or 25.5"
3/4 size 22.75"
1/2 size 20.5"
1/4 size 19"
The scale length of a guitar is measured from the "bridge" of the guitar to the "nut" of the guitar.
Very dissapointed!!!

.Perfect size guitar for any teen to adult with smaller hands. Look at the specs and you will see how much was put into this guitar. I could not of found a nicer guitar for such a great price. Very happy, this is my third Cordoba. Sounds as good as my full size classical, but alot easier to play and that is what I was looking for.

.This guitar was recommended and I love it!
Cordoba Requinto 580 1/2 Size Acoustic Nylon String Classical Guitar
.High action (1/4" at 19th fret) needs lowered saddle and nut. Truss rod doesn't adjust enough to straighten neck to my satisfaction but will do. Guitar is 3/4 size (22.75" scale) not 1/2 size (20.5" scale) as claimed. A good set-up is all that is needed.
