The Seagull Performer Cutaway Folk QI acoustic-electric guitar features a 3-layer laminated flamed maple body and a solid spruce top for a superb blend of rich tones and lush visuals. The guitar also has an integrated set neck joint and, Indian rosewood fretboard and bridge, and a Quantum I pickup for a great plugged-in experience. The Quantum I Saddle Transducer Pickup includes rotary volume, bass, and treble controls, with 200 hours typical battery life.
Compound Curve Top Design
The guitar top is the part of the instrument that most affects the sound. It is also the most delicate part of any high-quality acoustic guitar. The grade and thickness of the wood used (solid spruce), as well as the bracing structure, have a huge impact on the instrument's sound. The idea of applying an arch or a curve to the top is appealing because the added strength of an arched top should allow for the use of a thinner and more lightly braced top. While this is true, there remains a trade-off in applying a curve to the entire top. The most active part of the top is the area centered on the bridge. Applying a curve to this part of the top restricts movement resulting in a loss of dynamic range. On the other hand, the area of the top above the sound hole moves minimally but is problematic because it tends to sink if the guitar dries out even slightly. This tendency is also encouraged by downward pressure from the fingerboard resting on top of it. The solution is a top that has a compound curve.
In the Seagull Performer's design the top is arched slightly in the area above the sound hole and levels out in the area around the bridge. The compound curve top produces excellent stability in the upper part of the guitar top and the power and projection made possible by leaving the top flat below the sound hole flat. With the weak area above the sound hole stabilized, it is possible to make the rest of the top even more active with a bracing design that allows unprecedented control over the top vibration. The bracing for the Seagull Performer Cutaway QI guitar is quarter-sawn spruce, scalloped and carved to conform exactly to the curvature of the tops.

.Awesome sonic mid range response I was looking for...I have a Chaylor 410ce dreadnought I was looking for an alternate guitar for performance and in my studio.... This was it, the neck is a dream, real pretty to. I wasn't about to spend another 2 grand on a guitar and I didn't wanna waste my money on a cheap Ibanaz or Yamaha... they dont even come close.

.This is the 1st of 2 Seagull guitars in my collection. I bought the performer model used and it needed to be set up by a professional guitar tech before I would play it live. With a few small adjustments it plays remarkably well. While the Performer Folk was in the repair shop, I bought a 2nd Seagull; a Natural Elements as a back-up. To be clear, the adjustments I had done were due to the fact that it had been stored without proper humidity not because there was a design issue. Brand new, the performer plays well without any special adjustment.
I like so many things about this guitar and now that I've had a chance to compare it to the Natural Elements model I can see the differences quite clearly. I bought the Seagull Performer from an online classified but beforehand I visited a specialty guitar shop in Toronto to try out as many guitars as I could. It held its own against Martins, Takamines, Art Lutherie (Canadian brand), Norman guitars and all of the others. While it doesn't have the deep tones of a Martin, it has a beautiful, full mid-range tone - perfect for singing along with. As I was buying this guitar to play in my solo act, it seemed perfect. I have not been disappointed.
One notable difference between the Seagull Performer series and my other guitar, a Seagull Natural Elements is the quality of the electronics. They are night and day different. The Performer includes 2 tone controls (treble and bass) plus a tuner. The Natural Elements tuner is next to useless but the Performer's is quite sensitive and accurate enough for casual gigs.
The lightweight body and thinner neck on both models makes them perfect for women with their smaller hands and shorter arms. I have no trouble reaching over the body to play and I can see the fretboard when I need to. Plugged in there is enough control to attain a nice tone assuming that you have a reasonably professional amp. I use light strings and a light, flexible pick to get the best tone. It can sound vastly different if those two things are changed.
I have become a fan of the Seagull Brand and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

.I do understand that your going to have to set up your guitar to get it just the way you want it most times but it should be at least playable out of the box. the action of the guitar was so high that when you played a cord it would change the tone of the cord. I have a action gage for setting up your guitar or at least checking the height of the strings. the string where not even close to where they should have been they did not even mark on my gage it look like it was at least two times the height of the highest mark for the action gage .that said I am not going to pay to get it set up just to play it to see if I like the way it plays or sounds it should be like at least playable out of the box
