I was pleasantly surprised by not only the construction of the instrument but the tone and volume of the it as well. Given the affordable price of the mandolin, I just sort of figured that there would be some flaws that I would just have to justify against the price. However, after practicing on it for a considerable amount of time, I really cannot identify any such issues. In fact, I usually am a bit too lazy to write reviews but I just felt that the S8 needed a bit of positive testimony. Not only does the S8 have perfect tuning stability and general construction but it surprised me by its great intonation, comfortable action, adjustable truss rod, and good tone. I just restrung it with a set of Elixers and the difference was impressive. The only thing that takes a bit of getting used to with this style of mandolin is the size of the body. I was originally skeptical of the small size but after playing it (especially after putting the Elixers on) it has plenty of volume, clarity, response, and dynamic potential. I would absolutely purchase this instrument again if anything happened to it. I think that this make/model is far superior to any comparably priced instrument.
