I like the tone on The Merlin, and it is fun to play. If you are looking for well organized song books with contemporary songs to support your playing a Merlin you may be disappointed. The best I have found are some videos on YouTube and an interest group on Google Plus. Not being able to play a C chord means there are a fair amount of songs that cannot be played on the Merlin. There are work arounds for some songs but not as yet for others. It is fun to spontaneously play with and some people have posted videos playing the Merlin that sound quite beautiful. The sound quality of the Merlin is superior, I believe, to The Strumstick, which I also own.

.This is a birthday present from my wife Rita. Seagull literature says you won't want to put the Merlin down. They are right. Sound quality is wonderful. It has more volume than my much larger sound-area mountain dulcimer. Intonation is perfect on the frets. Easy to check with harmonic on high D. I love to sit in my favorite chair, put this featherweight Merlin on my lap, and play things I never would play on my electric or acoustic guitars, or my mandolins for that matter. For the price, this dulcimer can't be beat. Viva Quebec. Making good stuff in Canada.

.I love this thing! I played one in a music shop, they are pretty awesome! I strummed out the tune "Arkansas Traveler" on it and it sounded simply amazing! Great folk sound, super easy to play. Pretty much anything you play on it sounds good.
