Pickups on the 620 I purchased were not correctly aligned with the strings. This is not a mounting issue with the pickup placement... The pickup was manufactured with the pole pieces spaced too far apart. Maybe the six string model I received had 12 string model pickups... not sure. Volume output fades for the GB&E strings. Rickenbacker truss rod cover also mounted on a skew so that the bottom does not fit square with the nut.Seem like Ric is going the way of other American Guitar manufacturers and just tossing these things out the door without any oversight

.Received my Ruby Red 620 three days ago. Shipped double boxed. Only needed to be tuned. Played bass in a band eons ago. Decided to take lessons on a six string and bought a used Ovation Celebrity and new Fender Acoustisonic 90 amp. Progressing to the point, I wanted to buy a "good" American made electric. My instructor recommended a Stratocaster and I tried out several, liking their fast easy necks, but never cared for their looks. Played several Gibson models, LPs being too heavy and SGs (played the bass version), better feel, but not a fan of humbuckers. A friend of mine from my band years who owns many guitars, (including several of each of the models mentioned) and never stopped playing recommended Rickenbacker. Always admired his guitar collection and the Ric's most of all. Read many reviews and decided to take a chance. Glad I did, hard to put down, no make that nearly impossible. Ralphie got his Daisy Red Ryder in Christmas Story, and this Christmas this old kid got his Ruby Red Rickenbacker 620!

.I have owned my JetGlo (black) 620 for about 5 years now. I've played, Fenders, Gibsons, Washburns and also own Gretsch. This guitar is far and away the best guitar I've ever played. Everywhere I take it, I get the wow factor from other guitarists - "whoa, bro, that's a sweet rick!"Action is perfect, stays in tune, sounds amazing, and no other guitar will give you the tonal spectrum as accurately as this guitar. I play through a VOX AC15 and I can play anything except hard metal with that combo. Jazz, country, classic rock, mordern rock, name it and you can get the tone. It's hard to believe they're not more popular. And the finish on this thing is like a dream, and holds up like a tank. My strap came off at a gig recently and it dropped to the floor - not a scratch - but I've heard the semi-hollow's have finish issues. Not this one. It's my baby.

.I need to put my bias out there first, I love Rickenbackers and I think they are like potato chips, you can't just have one, so this is my third and not my last (eyeing a 650D next). So I have several strats and tele's and they all have that ability to give you great tones, but there is still nothing like the sound of a Rickenbacker. It has the ability to give great clean tones and a wide range of clean tones and that's without using the stereo output, but can also give great overdriven tones as well as bridge the gap of what a strat or a tele can do. Rickenbackers and the 620 is no exception, is not a guitar that you look to shred on, but for that sound that fills out any band mix with a great solid clean or overdriven tone with a little more warmth than any Fender. If you haven't played a Rickenbacker some of this may not make much sense, but if you try one it will all fall into place. They are extremely well made instruments, made in the good old USA. They have a different feel than any Gibson or Fender as I find the neck's are a bit more tapered, but very comfortable. I bought my 620, because I wanted to use a Rickenbacker when playing gigs and didn't want to take the chance of damaging my vintage 360 or having something happen to my fairly rare 260 so the 620 was the logical choice. The only issue I've ever had with Rickenbackers are that they require a little more maintenance than strats or teles and re-stringing is a bit of a pain in the neck, but well worth the hassle. I find that the world is in two camps, those who love Ricks and those who are indifferent, but if you are looking for a great classic tone and something is missing in your guitar arsenal, a 620 in my opinion is a must try and buy instrument, no guitar collection is complete without one. Play one, preferably through a Vox or Fender amp and it will all make sense.

.Recently purchased this guitar and a Ric 660-12. This guitar is the better of the two.
The fit and finish is very good. Rickenbacker finishes their rosewood fingerboards in lacquer. If you like the feel of a finished figerboard (think maple fingerboard guitars) this will work for you.
Tone is excellent if you can deal with the noisy single-pole pickups. Why can't Rickenbacker shield their guitars? As single pole pickups go, these apprear to have strong output.
The "R" tailpiece makes it harder to restring because you need to load the string from the bottom and hook it in to the slot. Very quirky.
Tuning pegs are first rate Schallars...unlike the more expensive 660-12 which uses inferior Klusons. (go figure) The bridge looks pretty good with the standard adjustable saddles as well as height and tilt adjustment.
The bridge cover comes off easily with two screws. If you want to palm mute, the cover needs to go.
The neck at the nut is a comfortable width. Rickenbacker necks do not get as wide as Gibsons or Fenders as you go up the neck. A little bit less room for string bending. But the strings are a bit closer for those high leads. It's a different feel you should be aware of.
One last thing. A few people mistake this guitar for a shorter scale. It IS a full 24 inch + scale. The guitar looks smaller because the body is shorter than say a Les Paul even though the neck scale is about the same. Again, this Rick has a different feel than the aformentioned. But it is still well balanced and easy to play standing up.
Overall a very nice guitar. Rickenbacker, go fix the 660-12!! (Read my review.)

.First, I believe this to be a well-built guitar with a great sound. However, the one I received had some minor finish defects that made me dissatisfied. For some people, they may not have noticed these defects. However, I'm a craftsman, and it didn't take long for me to see subtle poolings of varnish and a couple of craters from a popped varnish bubble. If I'm going to pay this amount of money for a guitar, I do expect it to be perfect. It's a small surface area to be finished- it shouldn't have any defects. And it's USA made.
I contacted Rickenbacker with detailed photos of this guitar, and someone got back to me quickly with concern and said management would get in touch with me. Well, they never did. Shame on you Rickenbacker, but thank you MF for your return policy.

.I've lusted for this guitar since I first held one in a Palm Springs music store back in 1977. The shape, the balance, the looks and the history of Rickenbacker guitars had me dreaming of owning one for decades. Then about three years ago I played another one at the Dallas Guitar Show and made up my mind to get one. It still took me awhile, they're not cheap, but I finally own one and I'm thrilled! The feel and playability are unsurpassed and the looks are incredible! I'm the only guy in town that I know of that owns a Rickenbacker and I'm extremely proud of that fact. It now enjoys a place of honor in my music room next to my other guitars. The Rickenbacker era has begun at my house!

When I recived the guitar the first thing I noticed was the necks where warped, easy fix no problem. After that came the adjustment of sting height.Everything was going well untill it came to the 14-15-16th frets, there was no way to adjust the strings from stop fretting out.If I went to high I felt a guitar should not need to go almost an inch of the neck to stop the fret buzz.Anyway I am sure there are some 620,s that arrive perfect,I have a 330 I bought in 1997 and still have not touch a thing on it.I still think they are great guitars, but I sent this one back.

.I only bought this guitar due to recommendations from people on the ric forum. But I am so glad I did. Wonderful Quality. Perfect set up out of the box .. nice low action. Mine is midnight blue which is just gorgeous. The quality and finish is as good as any of my other guitars which include a 2 Les Pauls and a Custom Shop Strat. It gives the traditional ric tones perhaps with a bit harder edge, but is really versatile. I was just playing mine and was so motivated by its tone I just had to write this review. I play through a Fender Supersonic 112 and a Marshall JVM 410. You wont regret owning this baby trust me !
