By the way, I'm not a "plant" but a real customer. I can understand the reviewers here being split down the middle on this pedal; it's very intense as far as the effect it has on your tone, but that's also what makes it great if you're into a very heavy, creamy type sound, think Smashing Pumpkins' Today song only with more of a Sabbath-type tone instead of grunge fuzz. I have the scoop switch off, the controls set to 12 o'clock for rhythm tracks, and the distortion set to 2:00 for leads. My SG is fun to play again.

.this pedal has amazing tone. i have your classic humbuckers and you would swear i have emg's!!! its a cheap pedal in price, but not in quality. i would recommend this to anyone out there looking for classic metal.

.I bought this pedal in hopes of getting a decent metal sound and was very dissapointed. To get any kind of a decent sound out of it you have to basically eq your amp so that the highs are almost completely gone. After that it sounds mediocre at best but when you click it off everything else sounds bad because of the lack of highs. I would only reccomend this pedal to a beginner who has no idea what good tone is and just wants something cheap with high gain. Anyone else I would advise to stay away.

.Ever wonder how many of the people in these reviews are plants? No way that many people think this is the greatest distortion box ever. There were only two people on the money. The one who said buy the biggest one, and the one who said the nano has uncontrolable treble. The main thing about the full-size is that it actually has an eq, so you can pull out all the treble, most of the midrange, and add a ton of bass. Then, you top boost for solos. I bought the nano hoping I could save space on my board since I'm not a hardcore metal player. Big mistake. I basically have to redo the sound of this by using it to drive a Bass Big Muff. That lets me eq it down to a bassy grind. Not bad in that I am using the same board space for two pedals now, but the metal sound is less desireable. My advice, if you want real metal tone, buy the big Metal Muff and drive a tube amp with it. It should get you where you want to go, short of a Marshall JCM900. If you are even semi-serious, get the XO at least. It has a tone knob that might save you from the trebly pain, and a top boost switch you could theoretically flip with your foot.

.I bought this muff awhile back because I was looking for something a bit more mellow w/ some warmth. My other distortions, Boss DS-1 and MT-2, are too scratchy overall and mask your tone. The treble on them is a bit ear splitting as well. So I decided to get this pedal simply because it had no eq capabilites and the ability to have some gain.I run a GE-7 Eq after this so I can eq both the clean thru my Ultimate Chorus and the pedal. This pedals sounds great if you turn the gain to 1 (1 out of 10) or .5, just a little bit. The trick is to increase the volume a lot afterwards and leave off the scooping entirely. I also use a DD-6, Rocktek Chorus, and Boss Trem, and a Crybaby. I play video game music covers so we do a lot of single note lines in 3 piece harmony; avoiding actual chords like the plague. So this pedal works for the heavier stuff by maintaining your pickup's tone; adding a little grit to your clean. If you turn the gain up all the way or use the scooping you'll be disappointed... just makes everything mush w/o clarity. I'm still looking for an overdrive pedal and a tube amp, but this pedal works well and makes you feel at home.

.Noisy, does the job. Not my favorite
Electro-Harmonix Nano Pocket Metal Muff Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal
.Wow I got to say good by to my metal zone, my death metal pedal (DOD) and good by to my mega distortion, because this pedal is amazing, it reminds me a bit of the distortion on a Krank head. This little thing is just perfect, I play it through my epiphone classic les paul and those two together are a doom/death metallers dream, I'm moving up to the full version once I sell all my other pedals.
Electro-Harmonix Nano Pocket Metal Muff Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal
.This Muff is perfect for my playing. I play mostly blues through a Fender Blues deluxe amp. Once in a while I need to get my heavier side out and this pedal more than satifies. I love that this only has two knobs and a toggle for mid adjustments. Stomp the box for AC/DC, Early Aersomith, Metallica, etc. It is small but sturdy and Powerful. It will knock your socks off. Probably the best value in any pedal I have ever used.

.this pedal is totally like whooa, i replaced my main distortion a rocktron metal planet pedal. its crazy because the rocktron you would figure having 4 more knobs than the MetalMuff would have better tonal capabilities but , no all it took was one click on this here muff and totally blew the metal planet out of the water and thats not an easy thing to do ,trust me ive played out many time with it(metal planet) for the past 2 years. this metal muff is a keeper and the leader in my distortion chain which includes the dod 250, the big muff and the digitech grunge. thank you electro harmonix for making this pedal for us metal heads!
Electro-Harmonix Nano Pocket Metal Muff Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal
.I bought this pedal about 3 months ago, and I gotta say that it is by far my favorite distortion pedal I've ever bought. First I bought the Uber Metal, but that pedal was complete overkill and a joke to try to record with. You might be skeptical because of there only being 2 knobs, but EHX has done it again.
