When it comes to gear, stompboxes included, sometimes simpler is better. It doesn't get much simpler than the LPB-1. Yet, even with just one knob, this pedal is extremely versatile. If you need a clean boost for solos or parts that need to cut through the mix, this little box will do it. You can also use it to overdrive a tube amp to create a meaty, saturated tone that is more responsive and natural sounding than using a distortion pedal. Or, use it after a good sounding overdrive pedal for added depth, harmonic texture and sustain. My favorite use for this pedal is to set the LPB-1's volume at around 1- 2 O'Clock and kick it on over an already moderately overdriven tube amp (like, for example, my Marshall JMP 50). That way I can go from a nice grindy rhythm tone to a fat, throaty lead tone for solos.
Compared to the equally awesome MXR Micro Amp, I hear more of a midrange emphasis when the LPB-1 is engaged. Even at cleaner settings, there is some added midrange coloration there that fattens up the tone a bit. I happen to dig it. However, if you are looking for something a bit more neutral sounding, you might want to go with the MXR or another brand. One non tone-related advantage the Micro Amp has over the LPB-1 is that its metal case is much heavier and, therefore, is less likely to move around on stage. Obviously, this is a non-issue if you have one securely attached to your pedalboard.
Finally, I had a hard time believing that a pedal priced this low (and made in the USA, no less) could actually be true-bypass. However, once I took off the bottom plate and saw the 3PDT foot switch inside, I was happily able to confirm it is! Every guitarist should own one of these little gems!
Electro-Harmonix Nano LPB-1 Power Booster Guitar Effects Pedal
.This is a must have for those who love the tone of their amp but just need more volume and sustain to cut through the mix.
I LOVE this pedal! If you use a small wattage tube amp and need a boost for leads without losing tone like most distortion pedals do this is for you. Killer sustain!!!
Nice small package looks pretty tough, all metal.
Electro-Harmonix Nano LPB-1 Power Booster Guitar Effects Pedal
.The only reason I did not give it a 10 rating is because the foot switch is located a bit too close to the power adjustment dial and your foot may have the tendencey to hit it and turn it when stepping on the foot switch. It takes a bit of getting used to.
This pedal is the ultimate is power booast pedals! Its a ballsy pedal! Even setting the turn dial at about 1 or 2 gives me the added extra boost I need to be just above the rest for my solos to cut through.
Perhaps the best feature is that is provides a natural-sounding boost without changing the tone. Other power boosters often alter the tone when activated, they not only boost the volume but they also boost the bass and/or treble -- But the Nano LPB-1 Power Booster is a natural!
I highly recmmed it to those looking for a great power booster. You'll probably want to pick up the 9-volt adapter for it as well to eliminate those battery chnge nuisances.
Its sturdy and well consructed.
At the price its more than well woth the money!
Electro-Harmonix Nano LPB-1 Power Booster Guitar Effects Pedal
.I bought this pedal wanting a clean boost that wouldn't color the sound and this pedal is exactly what I needed. I use it mainly for solos for a little extra clean kick. It drives my Bassman into tube saturation heaven! Put this pedal in your signal chain after an overdrive or distortion pedal and enjoy the supercrunch. It really makes my tubescreamer sing. If you're looking for a power booster that is really clean and does the job well, this is the one for you. There are certainly more expensive ones out there but I've compared this one to three others (a piggy one, a killy one and an m_r) and I like the sound of this one best. Plus it was the least expensive one of the lot! BUY IT!
Has true bypass. Simple one knob operation.
Sturdy metal case and good solid switch. Input and output jacks are top notch.
You CANNOT beat the bang for buck on this item. Its not cheaply made at all!
Electro-Harmonix Nano LPB-1 Power Booster Guitar Effects Pedal
.its a cheap pedal and i suppose you get what you pay for. I had purchased this pedal at sam ash on my way to a gig for a quick cheap boost and probably the worst mistake ive ever made. If you put it through a chain of distortion it muffles out the distortion adds bass, and over all just changes your tone. Save up and get something better.
Electro-Harmonix Nano LPB-1 Power Booster Guitar Effects Pedal
. I feel it can beef up the sounds of most amps! It can also help boost the sound if other effects begin to kill the volume.
The first EH guitar effect I purchased was a Muff Fuzz. This was back in the 70s and it sounded great through both a Pignose and an old Crown amp! This LPB-1 also sounds great through my Vibro Champ and NOS Blues Junior. It really wakes up the amps in a positive way. Just on its own it improves the tone. I need to start trying out other effects with it and hear the results. I can now record at lower volumes and still get an excellent tone with this device!
I'm very impressed by it
I definitely would get another if I lost this one.
Electro-Harmonix Nano LPB-1 Power Booster Guitar Effects Pedal
. i like how it boosts the lows and lower mids, too many boosters boost high til your ears bleed
one knob boost, love that
sturdy like a tank, be better if footswitch was farther from control knob
can't beat the price
Electro-Harmonix Nano LPB-1 Power Booster Guitar Effects Pedal
.Great pedal, invaluable to me. It colors the sound a tiny bit, a bit of bass and lower mids but a great volume boost. Adds a lot of gain with an overdriven or distorted amp.
I use it for certain solos or for certain rhythmic parts. Really adds some grit, I also use it to help manipulate feedback.
Simple, one knob, one button, 9v.
Metal (assuming aluminum) case, sturdy button! Think is built solid.
For me, it's a little stingy with the price, but I'm happy with what I paid for,
Electro-Harmonix Nano LPB-1 Power Booster Guitar Effects Pedal
.This pedal boosts the signal of your guitar, so that you can hit your preamp tubes harder, and get a nice tube saturation at a more reasonable volume. It also gives a nice little bass bost without otherwise changing your tone. If you have a solid state amp, you can still use it as a volume boost, but this was designed to push a tube amp. I use my amp at half power, and keep the LPB-1 on all the time for a crunchy rhythm tone. It's simple pedal that does what it was designed to do.
Electro-Harmonix Nano LPB-1 Power Booster Guitar Effects Pedal
.I can't recommend this pedal due to the fact that the LED indicator status light quit working after I got it installed on my pedal board. I'd return it but Custom Guitar's Friend's policy says they won't accept returns if the item isn't in new unused condition. Unfortunately for me I already removed the rubber feet and glued velcro to the bottom. It's pretty lame that Electro Harmonix can't make a pedal that will last more than a couple of hours. I'll never buy any of their products again. I gave it 2 stars because the boost function still works. No telling how long though. Shipping to have it fixed will cost almost as much as the pedal. Guess I got stuck with a lemon.
