Custom Guitars who are looking for a great "all in one" delay pedal should seriously consider the SMMH. I won't tout it as the end-all-be-all delay pedal, but what sold me was the organic tone, vast array of features, and relatively compact design.

This is a digital pedal, yes, but it has that legendary Memory Man tone, complete with warm repeats and world class modulation. It has all the capabilities of a digital pedal, but with the feel of an analog pedal, proving that you can have the best of both worlds.

The layout for the delay modes is a bit misleading at first glance. On the surface, it appears as though it has considerably less delay types than its competition. This is far from the truth, however, as virtually any delay tone can be emulated with this beast. It's a design that truly seems to reward creativity.

The modulation is another great selling point, as it seems to be an amalgam of several of EHX's finest and most revered products. The reverb is comparable to the Holy Grail, the flange and chorus to that of the Electric Mistress, and the ring modulation isn't too far off from the mark of the Frequency Analyzer.

There's so many specs to write about, the multi-tap, the stereo ins and outs, being able to store/create up to 8 presets, 30 seconds of looping (60 if 30 seconds of blank space is recorded first and the Delay knob is set to 0), but my favorite aspect is easily the reverse echo. The SMMH by far has the best and most customizable reverse echo that I've heard.

It's not without its blemishes, however. Some will find the control layout difficult to use. Buyers will definitely want to hold onto the manuel. It's not expression pedal accessible, either. This is not a dedicated looper as it will not store loops. Also, the looper can be accessed while in any mode, but it requires that users hold down the tap button to record for the duration of the loop. (Also, make sure to set the Delay knob all the way up in order to have each loop be at equal volume.) These minor problems didn't bother me, as it's still a great pedal at a great value, and for the price, I still don't think it can be beat.

.This is such a great delay to compliment another analog delay/reverb unit. It's got most of the features you'd expect plus some extra features which come in handy. You can save 1 preset for each delay type(Echo, multi tap, and reverse echo) and it also can run in stereo. The tone is excellent, definitely a pristine digital delay sound that decays nicely. The reverse echo is especially great sounding. There are a couple of short falls....1. although there is tap tempo there are no subdivisions available. this wasn't a deal breaker for me, however that is a very common feature for digital delays nowadays and is nice to have in a live situation. 2. there is no quantize feature with the loop function. I'm not saying the loop feature isn't useful, however you have to be perfect with your timing which takes some getting used too. All together an EXCELLENT delay pedal!

.Slices and Dices in so many dimensions! Lots of features/possibilities!

Sound Quality - Excellent! What you would expect from a digital delay. Very clean... not what I would characterize as especially "warm" but the "Filter" does help to take some edge off if thats what you like. I find the buffer to be "true" but also agree with a previous reviewer, there is a slight volume drop when engaged.

Features/Controls - EHX does NOT play it safe! All the controls are capable of going to the EXTREME! Very cool for experimentation! I do not find it difficult to setup an "every day" delay, however you "do" have to read to get at all the possible capabilities. There are many hidden features and some knobs have dual functions depending on the delay mode.

Looper - Very cool that the looper is "armed" at all times and you can loop any time "with" whatever delay is going at the time. The pedal "can" make very accurate loops, but if you are used to other loopers it takes some practice to master the "push to punch-in, hold to record, lift to punch-out" paradigm. Also makes it difficult to record wah or whammy into your loop as it would require use of both feet! (bring a stool to the gig ala Fripp???)

Presets are great! Would be cool though if alternate presses of the preset button would take you into the preset then back to the knob settings (if EHX is listening???).

From extreme experimental madness to every-day digital cleanliness... Overall, a very fun pedal!

.not a good performance looper, slight delay in recording loop record swtich clumsy
Electro-Harmonix XO Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai Delay Guitar Effects Pedal
.The Stereo Memory Man w/ Hazarai is a very versatile delay pedal. The filter knob works as either a low pass filter to approximate an analog delay, or a high pass filter which gives an interesting "tiny speaker sound" to the delayed signal. I should note however that if you are looking for a digital pedal that really emulates an analog delay, you may want to shop around a bit more. This pedal does its own thing and sound quite pleasant, but if you A/B it next to a true analog delay, its just not the same sound. While I'm definitely not going to return this pedal or sell it any time soon, I do have some pretty serious complaints. It is very hard to set unity gain when using either the looper or Reverse echo. I want the signal to be the same volume when bypassed as it is when on, AND the same volume when playing back the loop that i have just recorded. I have not been able to "crack the code" on how to do this, so i wind up having to make some sort of compromise. My other complaint is the knobs aren't set quite right. For example when i record a loop and put the "delay knob" at 12:00, it should play back at the same speed that i recorded it, but it actually plays a bit faster. (the sweet spot is closer to 11:00)Other than those complaints, this is a very fun, great sounding delay pedal with a tap tempo. You can get some pretty unique sounds with the SMMWH, especially if you plug in a microphone.

.After searching about for a good digital delay pedal, I stumbled upon this wonderful box. Had everything that I wanted: tap tempo, modulation, and multi tap. But it had sooo much more than that. After simply tweaking a few things in the modulation mode, I have a full blow flanger that sounds awesome! Tweak some more, and I have a basic ring modulator. Play with the basic echo settings, and I have a pretty darn decent sounding reverb. The reverse is also super realistic and I found it easy to incorporate it into my bands music as it is so tweakable, I can get it to do exactly what I want.I have a love/hate relationship with the "Blend" knob, because it's great for when I want a completely wet signal, but when I simply want the repeats to be louder and keep my dry signal the same volume, it can't accomplish this. But other than that, it pairs nicely with my MXR Carbon Copy!

.I love this box.....no complaints

.Sounds very nice. Still getting further into its capacity but I'm happy with it.
Electro-Harmonix XO Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai Delay Guitar Effects Pedal
.I bought this pedal for live sets at church, but after several days of trying to get the hang of this beast, I gave up. The sound is great, but it's not THAT great... at least not for the amount of space it takes up on a pedal board.Feature-for-feature, do yourself a favor and look into the TC Electronic Flashback Delay or the Boss DD-7; both feature a smaller footprint and are easier to dial in than the Memory Boy. Oh, and either the TC or the Boss are easier to adjust on the fly. The Memory Man was a NIGHTMARE to tweak in a live setting. Forget it.
Electro-Harmonix XO Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai Delay Guitar Effects Pedal
.this pedal is great. i find it best to run first on the chain from the amp, that way you can use other pedals when looping. the only thing i wish is that the box was made of better material.
