The Fender Special Edition Standard Stratocaster electric guitar is a modified version of a Standard Series Strat featuring custom upgraded appointments such as a tinted and gloss finished vintage-style maple neck, classic 50' spaghetti logo, aged white plastic parts, a black/white/black three-ply pickguard and three classic Fender single-coil pickups. Other features include an alder body, 21-fret 9.5" radius fingerboard, and a classic Fender Synchronized Tremolo. Case sold separately.

I love when Fender does offers special addtions, but this one simply cosmectics (things you could do your self to a Mexican Standard frankly???...over and over again the cheap pickup choices, kill these guitars as a whole. How much more $$ can it cost to put even a stock set of USA alnicos in this guitar? so you can play it stock, without having to mod it right out of the box?
The ceramics are OK, but really lack detail and power imho, muddy, etc. Fender do a limited edition, but put decent pickups in the guitar not just some colored knobs and pickguard?

.Read all reviews before purchasing. I never owned a Mexican Fender product previously. Great neck, good finish. Reviews warned of "thin" sounding ceramic pickups. That would be a understatement. I am replacing the entire assembly with a set of fender custom shop Texas specials. The only downfall was Custom Guitars Friends lack of properly boxing up this for shipping. They put the UPS shipping label directly on the factory Fender box that offered minimal protection. The box delivered to my door was smashed in on the bottom, first thoughts were to return this package because it had to be damaged. I decided to open it & check the guitar out. It was fine. A true Christmas miracle!

.This is a well made great sounding guitar period ! For the money, it is an exceptional value. The neck feels comfy and fast, pickups sound great, fit and finish top notch. Don't get hung up on its MIM birthplace, it's a winner. Even though I love it "stock", I bought it as a platform to make an economical David Gilmour "Black Strat" copy. Perfect start.

.While having a couple of nice added appointments, this is nothing much more than your stock MIM Strat you can buy Demo/New/mint/used for three fifty, I mean it costs nothing really for Fender to change a pick guard or pickup cover? ( but they still ship these with the cheap/poor ceramics), yeah the neck has some tint to it, so?...do yourself a favor and just buy a MIM stan strat, and then use the extra money to buy some decent pickups. 57/62 vintage PU set or something better...

.I had a Ibanez Artcore and a Epiphone Les Paul, but this Fender MIM Strat is a killer! The neck is amazing, with a high-end finish (different from standard). Very comfortable and fun to play. I replaced the pickups and the tuner and I have a amazing guitar now! If you are looking for a versatile guitar, this is the best for the price IMO.

This is one of my "bucket list" items of a lifetime, to own a Fender Stratocaster! I have been playing guitar since I was 12 years old...49 years later I get my dream electric guitar! Yes it's the Mexican version but that's okay with me! I got it on sale so I'm happy!

.This is a great MIM Stratocaster. This FSR with black body and black pick guard looks really sharp. I get ton's of compliments on it! Plays great, holds tune. Very happy with it!

The build and materials used in this mexican strat are signifigantly better than a regular mexican fender standard strat. The pickups (PUPS) and electronics are typical mexican caca and should be tossed.
The PUPS are the type with the poles surrounded by two bar magnets. They sound 'ok' but 'ok' ain't 'ok' for me.
This guitar has potential to scream, the neck is gorgeous, with quilted beautiful maple neck.
I also used this as a 'Gilmour' build. I rewired everything and replaced all the electronics. No-load 250k tone pots, 250k vol pot, GFS Vintage '59 pickups Texas wound(they sound great I was really impressed - first set i've ever bought - i've had lindy fralins, lollar, seymour duncans, fender texas specials, in my other fenders and the GFS hold their own with all if not better).
I shielded the guitar in copper and also added a switch to make it a 7-sound strat so i can play neck and bridge together in parallel (awesome) and also all three PUPS at once.
I decided to replace the saddles with standard graph tech saddles (not the metal ones). I have always been hesistant to get graph tech saddles because i perceived that a non-metal saddle would be a tone suck. Nope sounds great. I think any 'mellow-ness' or 'darkness' that may be added by the graoh tech saddles actually helps with the brightness caused by the no-load pots. I will probably replace the nut with bone or brass.

.This is my first Fender Stratocaster and I am happy I got this model, it is unique and great for the price! The guitar came packed pretty well, but it doesn't come with a gig bag through. The neck is really great, with the tinted gloss finish and 50's style logo. The electronics are also very solid and work as they should, the pickups could be slightly better, but for the price they are decent! I love this guitar and would buy it again!
