I was first impressed with the quality of the materials and workmanship. From the beautiful grains of the woods to the defect-free construction and flawless finish, this instrument compares to some of the best guitars and ukuleles I've seen.
The sound is reminiscent of the sweet, mellow tones of a classical guitar, especially when playing it fingerstyle or strumming without a pick. Being the size of a tenor ukulele and having a ukulele tuning, it most replicates that feel and tonal quality with the added benefit of two more strings that extend the range an octave lower.
Playing is precise and effortless with a perfectly straight neck and action set comfortably without fret buzz. Volume is balanced across all strings and the intonation is accurate all the way up the neck. With a scale length and fret spacing like a tenor ukulele, ukulele players should feel right at home. Having six strings will make the transition for guitar players easy, too. As a ukulele player and guitarist I was able to play it immediately and I am confident this instrument will remain a great addition to my collection.
Other comments: Besides an outer shipping box, the instrument was packed in a heavy cardboard retail box, in its carrying bag, and was braced to prevent any movement during shipping. The instrument is serialized and comes with a three-year limited warranty from the manufacturer that you can register online. The lightly-padded, but relatively heavy carrying bag has a full length zipper plus a zippered pouch on the front for accessory storage, as well as both a hand strap and two shoulder straps. (The bag is nice but I was pleasantly surprised that the instrument also fit into one of my tenor ukulele hard cases perfectly.) The clip-on electronic tuner has settings for ukulele, guitar, bass, violin, and chromatic. There are no strap pins on the instrument - but ukuleles don't generally have them, either.
