People say you can get a sound out of a flanger like a jet engine. Well, I'm not that experienced with using a flanger, but I was looking for that swooshing type sound Robin Trower had on his Bridge of Sighs album. This flanger seems to give me the sound I was looking for.
Boss BF-3 Flanger
.I wish I would have bought one of these a long time ago.
I'm still finding more and more settings everytime I goof around with it. I highly recommend searching the internet for settings suggestions.
I can't think of anything more I would ask for in a flanger.
Lots of settings, not too expensive, seemingly well built.
Boss BF-3 Flanger
.First off, I will say that I am a bassist and bought this pedal mainly because I wanted to get that Justin Chancellor of Tool tone, and this pedal encompasses that tone nearly perfectly (think "46&2" and thats a great example of this thing at work). It has two inputs, one for bass and one for guitar, and it sounds great with both though I mainly use it with bass. The tone is so finely adjustable with 4 different knobs that at first it can seem overwhelming, but after messing around with it for about 20 minutes you'll be able to figure out exactly what you're doing. This pedal can do everything from a clean chorus sound to that wavy, high-rate trippy sound. In all I really don't know how else to describe this pedal, if you're looking at it you probably know what a flanger pedal sounds like and if not, well look up the song I mentioned and thats a perfect example. Oh and for the record, like all BOSS pedals, it's built like a tank- you can jump up and down on the switch and it won't break. Couldn't be happier with my purchase!
Boss BF-3 Flanger
.This is a great flanger. It's a very typical Boss product. Like most boss pedals this thing has a bunch of knobs to play with. I have used this pedal in all sound modes except touch tempo and I really enjoy creating new sounds with this device. For a noise rock musician this thing can self ossiclate like mad. You can make some of the most ridiculous sounds with this pedal. You can go from a deep sweeping flanger to a crazy vibrato really easily. The ultra and normal mode don't have too much of a difference Mostly I use the ultra. I've also gotten the crimson and clover sound with this pedal. Tone wise I feel that this pedal is a little dark, I don't think it would be as toneful as an electro harmonix pedal. However, this pedal stays true to boss' form. Durable, Collectible, and versatile. The only reason why I didn't give it a five is that it is somewhat of a noisemaker at times and also a little expensive. However, I would definitely buy this pedal again with no hesitation.

.This is a great flanger pedal. It was my dad's, but I have pretty much taken it from him, because I love it so much. It has a very wide range of tones. The only thing that I can complain about is the coulor! HAHA. Also if you put the depth above 2 o'clock, then your playing gets a bit muffled. Overall, great pedal, I love this thing
Boss BF-3 Flanger
.Well, it's a BOSS Pedal, so you know you're getting great sound from a pedal that would survive being thrown out of an airplane.

As a Bass player, the BF-3 kind of picks up where the BF-2 left off. Follow it with a CHORUS pedal for some really great sounds.

I find the ULTRA setting to be a bit too much - maybe better on Guitar soloing - but it makes the bass sound some 1960's ray-gun sound effect.

The GATE function, on mono mode, is basically a tremolo. Still a lot of fun to play with.

Overall, a great buy. A lot of fun to mess around with yourself or in a session.

.Rather than repeat other reviews... This is a terrific upgrade to the BF-2 due to the extra mode settings. Especially noteworthy is the Momentary setting which can add some nice seasoning to a solo passage. I don't use a lot of flange effects due to the metallic sound that the more extreme settings can produce but you can clean that up by going easy on the Effect Level knob. Tonally, the BF-3 is somewhat dark when compared to the Rocktron Hypnotic Flange but, overall, the BF-3 is a typically top-notch Boss pedal.
Boss BF-3 Flanger
.this is a must have, the amount of sounds it can produce is amazing and it sounds alot better than the other flanger models, ive tried pretty much all of them in stores, and my friend has bought this one
Boss BF-3 Flanger
. Great pedal, sounds fantastic. I am using this more for slight color and an even bigger sound, I almost can't tell it is on, unless I turn it off, and then is about as bad as playing with the compressor off. Excellent investment, can't believe I have been playing without one.
Boss BF-3 Flanger
.I picked up the BF-3 looking for something that could produce two sounds: first, "watery chorus" sound like the one employed by some of my guitar heroes like Johnny Marr, Andy Summers, and John McGeoch. Second, I wanted to get that "whooshing jet" sound used by other guitar players I admire, like Bernard Butler and John Squire. This Boss unit easily nails all required tones, and it does so much more that I have yet to really discover all of the different options it provides.I've owned the pedal for a few months now and it's earned a permanent place in my rig. I'm giving it a great review because it does everything I need it to exceptionally well, and it's very user-friendly. Also, it's nice to know that when I finally sit down to truly experiment with this stompbox, I'll find a lot of new sounds.Speaking of plentiful features, the tap-tempo is pretty neat, but it's much more useful if you're setting up to record or playing in a controlled environment. Holding down the pedal for 2 full seconds and then tapping in the timing isn't exactly easy to do on the fly in a live situation (at least, not if you're operating other effects units at the same time). I much prefer the Line 6 ToneCore method which doesn't require one to hold the pedal down to adjust the parameter. This is, however, a small complaint.I've read other reviews that say that activating the BF-3 produces an audible volume drop, but I have yet to encounter this problem. Quite the contrary: when I step on the footswitch, the effect seems to blend itself into the signal seamlessly (i.e. without the sound going from zero to 11 right out of the gate). It plays very, very well with others; my gear includes a Fender Telecaster, a Vox AD100VT, and other effects made by Boss, Line 6, MXR, and EHX. The BF-3 fits in perfectly with my setup, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a versatile flanger.
