Meet the new BOSS effects flagship, the BOSS GT-100. The GT-100 Amp/Effects Processor boasts next-generation amp modeling that re-creates vintage amps and provides new COSM tones that soar into the future with the dynamics, tone and feel you'd expect from a boutique unit. User interface is improved by a dual-LCD system, while EZ Tone has been enhanced with newly designed Amp Customize and OD/DS Customize features. The GT-100 is a powerhouse processor that spans from classic to futuristic in a friendly, rugged and roadworthy unit.
Advanced COSM Amps: beyond vintage
With its next-generation COSM processor, the BOSS GT-100 offers all-new sonic capabilities. Recreating the meticulous details of vintage amps and how they behave, the GT-100 excels in not only cloning classic amps, but provides a new world of unimagined tones as well. The Amp Customize function lets you mutate classic amps beyond reality.
Easy to use
The GT-100's unique dual-LCD and eight-knob user interface provides fast access and intuitive control. There are no menus to navigate. The tone-customizing functionality has been improved as well. All patches, amps, and overdrive/distortions can be created from scratch or customized with the graphical Tone Grid.
New A/B Channel Divide
Another new feature onboard the GT-100 Amp Effects Processor is the versatile A/B Channel Divide. Assign different amps and effects to each channel, divide the signal by dynamics and frequency, with each channel capable of driving its own effects and amps settings. Assign smooth, mild lead tones to the mid-to-high pitches, for example, and heavy, cutting tones to the lower notes.
New tonal possibilities with the Accel pedal
A new dimension of expression is available with the Accel pedal, which enables control of multiple parameters simultaneously, as well as time-variant effects such as Feedbacker, S-Bend and Twist. Experiment with creative combinations of parameters, interacting in real time with the pedal.
Advanced COSM amps that model vintage amp tones and delivers never-before-heard tones
Improved EZ Tone with graphical Tone Grid for constructing new patches
AMP Customize and OD/DS Customize lets you easily create original amps and overdrive/distortion by customizing their behavior

I really wanted to like this unit. I still really want to like it. At the end of the day, it is so close to being the device I really wanted to own, but unfortunately, after using it for 3 weeks, I decided it just wasn't cutting the mustard. Let me explain.
I play a mix of styles, and I play in a mix of bands. In some bands, I play acoustic, and in some bands I play electric. I really wanted a pedal board that could in some ways, complement both. Unfortunately, this unit is rubbish when combined with my acoustic guitars, and the reason is that there is no true bypass. That means, that there is no way to get an untouched, virgin sound out of your guitar when you are plugged into this thing. My acoustic plugged into my Fishman loudbox is a thing of beauty, and unfortunately, no matter how I tried, I could not get close to that crystal clear, poignant, yet rich tone that I get just running direct into the amp through the GT-100. No matter what you do, the tone is altered, and there is no way around that. The lack of a true bypass is a completely stupid oversight and is pretty inexcusable. Moving on..
I did some nice recordings with this thing while I had it. It can, when you fuss with it, really produce some good quality tones. I enjoyed the software that came with it, and found that it was easy to work with, well thought out, and again, mighty close to exactly what I was looking for. I can't knock this unit on this front. Customizing tones with this unit when it is connected to computer via the Tone studio, is a great time. I was able to learn it quickly, and I was able to get some great sounds out of it.
Still, the bulk of this unit is designed for the true Hard Rock and Metal guitarists out there. You know, the ones you always see thrashing away every time you walk into Guitar Center. If you are one of these people, you are pretty much going to love this unit. It was designed for your after all. If you are like me, and you like to play mostly clean guitar, but are in search of new tones to add to your bag of tricks, fatten your sound slightly here and there, add some delay, some envelope filter, some phase, some light sustain when the moment calls.. Then this unit can do that, but only about 10% of it was designed for you. And ok, that is also fine, because even the 10% that you get, is still a fun time. The effects are quality, and the unit is easy to use. You can spend an afternoon perfecting that sound you are after, and in some cases, you can come super close to achieving it... Maybe if there was one more soft compression unit, or clean tube pre-amp model included, but alas.. Plus, there is no clean bypass, so... moving on..
Ok, I was also encouraged that there was a looper bundled into this thing. I do a bit of looping, and used to own the Boss RC20xl back before it got stolen. I was excited to get the ability to loop back along with a bunch of other tricks, in one amazing pedal. But, you are limited to just 35 seconds. It might even be less than that. Seriously?? This is 2014, and this unit costs like half a grand. For that kind of dough, and the fact that there is an entire pedal on this device dedicated to the looper, there should have been far more function here. It is almost as though Roland added this feature as an after thought, or just because they knew it would look good on paper, but they did so in a very limited way, so those who are still serious about looping, will have to go out and buy a dedicated unit, preferably theirs. If you are going to dedicate an entire pedal on this 6 pedal unit to the looper, at least give us like 2 minutes of dedicated looping capability. Minimum!! Too often, I found myself trying to lay down a base rhythm track, only to get cut off before it was completed, and this was just friggin stupid! No excuse for this really! Why not just create the unit everyone wants, and sell the heck out of it? Why intentionally limit your device and your customers? Moving on.
Over all, I think this unit is as good as anything I am aware of that is out there in one device. If the right unit were created, which this could easily have been, I'd be up for buying it in a heart beat. As it was, I sadly returned this unit after owning it for 3 weeks, even though a big part of me did not want to. I know the unit of my dreams, does not exist at this time, and this is the closest thing to it. Still, I just could not justify throwing down that kind of dough for something that was so glaringly intentionally limited. I'd love to have a cup of Joe with the folks that designed this thing some day, so I could really give them a piece of my mind...
Boss GT-100 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal
.I love it. I had a Boss ME-70, it's the same type of set up procedures. Very similar programming but just a lot more options. It has, more pedals to select, and in manual, much more switching power. Very easy to adjust to your own particular sound; I didn't have to read the manual to get started, it's a man thing but I like it. Mine is plugged into two tube amps so the amp modeling was not a big thing for me, I just had to make sure the modeling was bypassed.
The sound possibilities are heavenly.
CONS: Don't sell your looper yet, like on the ME-70 the loop is only 38 second, with the price of memory I think it's a big flaw not to make it at least a couple of minutes, then the artist is not scared/limited of running out of time.
CONS2: The preprogrammed sound are mostly for rockers, I wish they would have had more for Blues/Jazz/Old rock guys like me. Mind you I can easily get the sound I want by playing with the adjustments but, I wish they would have helped me a little more.
So because of the short looper and mostly heavy rock programming, I'll give it a 9/10.

.I've been an owner of the Boss GT line since the GT-6. Previous version had its limitations however GT-100 is like comparing day and night. I perform live and also record professionally. I've had the GT-100 for a week and sound quality is awesome regardless of using headphones, digital amp, tube amp or PA. Very easy to customize based on output selected. I've been playing for 30+ years and work hard to obtain the quality of sound that represents my style.
Boss GT-100 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal
.Like most, I have had ton of different setups over my years of playing. I have always wanted a nice, budget friendly multi-effects unit that integrates with my amp - not to replace it. The GT-100 works beautifully in this regard (and also surprised me at how well it could replace my amp, too!).
For me, the best thing about this is that I can easily take the GT, my guitar, and my amp (or any amp with a decent clean channel) and happily have a jam or play a gig with minimal fuss. I don't even need to setup a bunch of patches - I just setup a couple patches as different 'pedalboard' layouts and use the unit in Manual Mode. The global EQ can compensate for any difference between amps/rooms and can be quickly adjusted.
The icing for me was the fact that the amp sims and overdrives sound REALLY good and are very useable with an actual amp. I could never get the HD500X to sound near as good as the GT does with all of my amps (using the 4CM). The HD500X might be great for going direct or recording, but if you want to use a multi-effects with an actual amp (in my case, a Blackstar HT-40 or Crate VFX5112 or VFX5212), the GT-100 is the choice - hands down.
Likes:
- Can control my amp channels from the unit (and save the amp setting in patches)
- OD and amp simulations sound better to me than the HD500X when using them with in the 4CM - I feel they are WAY more useable with an actual amp
- Effects are standard BOSS quality re: excellent
- Very easy to use and make quick adjustments
- Super flexible footswitch assignments - can have one footswitch control multiple parameter changes across all effects and a can freely assign what each footswitch does (in Manual Mode)
- Power button! (are you kidding me Line 6...)
- Easy to read and useful display
- Great polyphonic tuner with the v2.0 update
No Likes:
- Effect blocks can be placed anywhere you want, but there are dedicated effects blocks for Comp, OD, Chorus, Delay, Reverb that can't be changed, leaving you with only two available blocks for "other" effects (HD500X will let you put any effect in any of the 8 available blocks - but you can easily run out of DSP depending on what effects are used)
- I like 3PDT footswitches, but understand why BOSS used this type of footswitch
- Would like some sort of physical feedback when clicking on the expression pedal
-
No opinion:
- Looper isn't as nice as the HD500X, but is still very usable for a multi-effects unit (if you are really into looping, you need a dedicated looper anyway)
- No XLR outs (I don't & won't ever go direct)
- No Stereo FX send/return (don't use stereo effects and if I did the GT would be handling them anyhow)
- Have no clue how it compares to the HD500X for recording - don't use either of them for that purpose
Boss GT-100 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal
.Got this unit shortly after it was released. Have not been disappointed. It is built like a tank and very easy to navigate. I used it in front of my stock fender pro junior 3 tube amp as a effect unit only because the tube amp colors the sound of the gt100 amp models. So I got myself Alto ts10 pa speaker and I will test that combo when it gets here. I did use headphones with the gt100 and its amp models sounded better than going thru my tube amp.
This is my first multi-effect unit so I can't compare it sound wise with others on the market. I think the next step up would be the kemper modeller for me. I just wanted something cheap and functional for now and this gt100 delivers. I didn't like the hd500's navigation screen. I didn't like the fixed routing on other units like digitech's, etc. 11rack was too expensive and needs a foot controller. I think this gt100 is the best of all of them because it does so many things well. Love the strong foot pedal and push. buttons. I updated mine to latest firmware and it was easy to do following roland's instruction on their website.
I don't use any of the stock presets and I build my own from scratch. Very easy and fun to do. Definitely recommend downloading extra documentation like parameters info from roland's website. The unit comes with a basic manual to get you started. No software or usb cable included. It's a very flexible unit and anyone who digs deep into the unit will find a way to do most of what they need to do.
Boss GT-100 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal
.Finally used my GT-100 with a pair of Roland 80XL amps to get a full stereo sound on stage at the club I played over the weekend. Running stereo into the house PA too. Sounded great!
Had many tubes amps that I liked (most recently the EVH 50 watt head) but just weren't practical when I need to play 45-50 cover songs in a night. I had considered the Roland JC-120 but I'm reading the older models sound better. But I want reliability so a 25 year old amp is not for me when I'm making money every weekend. Also, two of the Roland 80XL amps are easier to carry than one big JC-120 and I get a better separation (stereo) effect by placing them further apart than the JC-120 speaker set-up allows. Someone commented on the sound of the guitar this past weekend, saying it sounded just like the CD. That's cool and all but my aim was to have a couple of different sounds in the ballpark of each tunes sound. I'm not a note for note player unless it's a melody line I need to follow. I like to improvise on stage a bit. But I don't want to do a 3 minute solo either. I play for the song. The GT-100 was a lot of work but the sounds I get are far superior to the Boss GT-8 which I owned at least 3 separate times hoping it would sound better with each new rig I had. A live gig is always going to be the determining factor in whether or not a rig, or even a pedal sticks around. Boss GT-100 into a pair of the Roland 80XL is easy to set up, sounds are already set with the GT-100 and easy to take down at 3:00am!
Boss GT-100 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal
.Similar to the GT-10 (though definitely improved), this multi-effect pedal delivers everything Boss/Roland promises. The manual mode is great at providing the sense of having 8 stomp boxes at your feet at once. Other great features include the amp control (which allows you to switch channels on your amplifier if the amp is recognized by the GT-100). Also, the accel-function is a new nice little addition to the board.
There is almost too much to alter with within each patch: eq (pre and post effects), pedal functions, compression, distortion/overdrive, amp-modelling, noise gates, delay, chorus, reverb, effects (tremlo, slicer, flanger, phaser, etc), and much more. I've been using this device for about 20+ play hours and am still finding new features to adjust. The Dual Screen (new to GT100) is really helpful.
Boss really made this multi-effect pedal versatile while also more simple to use than the GT-10.
Great pedal. I would recommend it for anyone regardless of genre. This device produces great tone for Rock, Blues, Alternative, Metal, etc.
Gear:
ESP LTD ---> GT-100 ---> Roland JC 120
I also use an MXR Noise Gate (for quick adjustment during occurrence of unwanted hiss and hum) as well as Boss Power Stack pedal for additional distortion options.
Boss GT-100 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal
.First go to Roland and download their Floorboard, Driver, and Library software for the Gt-100. Using the software will make it super easy to Customize the sound you like for YOUR rig. Also most of the GT-10 patches on the Internet will work perfectly with your new toy which means almost any sound is readily available to you. I've only had mine for a little over a week but with my blues Jr amp and Fender Am. Strat I can get everything from Eric Johnson to Van Halen. What more do you want....
Boss GT-100 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal
.This is probably one of the best effects pedals out there. I have been using it for about 8 months now. I did a show last week and everyone commented on how great my guitar tone was. Before buying the GT-100 I was using Line 6 Pod products. In my opinion this sounds better than those pedals.
One of the keys to making this pedal sound good is to select what you plug it into in the settings section. If you selected that you are plugged into a P.A. system when you are really plugged into a guitar amp then this thing will not sound as good. You need to select what you are plugged into in the settings. I actually plug this into a Makie mixer and I am using two QSC K12 mains. This thing sound incredible through that system.
You can download software from Boss that makes programming custom patches simple and easy. I programmed some incredible acoustic patches. Besides the typical effects like reverb, delay, and chorus Roland includes FX1 and FX2 in every patch. These categories have a wide range of effects to choose from. I used the Acoustic processor to make my acoustic patches. I used the guitar sim to make my electric sound like an acoustic. There is also a Defretter effect that makes your guitar sound like a fretless instrument. This quickly became one of my favorite effects for acoustic and clean electric tones. I really enjoy everything this pedal can do and it has been the best gear purchase I made all year!
Boss GT-100 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal
.I would have given it five stars if not for the terrible looper. Looper only gives you 38 seconds and you can't add removable memory. Looper doesn't show you how much time you have left, which is a shame considering the Fender G-DEC 3 Thirty does. Also, the need to double tap any button is a major inconvenience, especially if you miss the double tap window: too fast or too slow counts as a single tap! Ouch! In practical terms, you could find yourself overdubbing when you meant to stop. The "Accel" button is totally useless. The whole point of getting a pedal like this is to customize your own sound, so the notion of using the Accel pedal to "change the sound and intensity over time" is idiotic. On the bright side, you can reassign the Accel pedal. The expression pedal is horrible for wah wah effects because it isn't spring loaded (get a proper Dunlop CryBaby instead), but it comes in handy for crude volume control. Other than the annoying features I've listed, this is a really nice MFX pedal.
