EHX Extortion, first off I am a blues, jazz and hard rock guitarist so after 1 week with this unit I have used it with my JCM 900 Marshals with Black Label Society EV speakers and quite frankly it was a Franken Stein moment when it went live, the sound was so big it actually scared me…. I have also used it as a direct input to mixer too and the sound is great for headphone use in my apartment, I can dial in a big clean tone into a mixer board & in my case it's Allen Heath Zed10 using Bose headphones and boy can it rocks me hard… If you understand tone and can appreciate the 2 stage distortion this is a must for anyone looking for something they don't already have, if you don't have any of these fun things I mentioned you need to get this anyway because it is supper peddle that you will not regret owning and will grow your arsenal of sound!

.Very good with Les Paul solid type; I have Stormy Monday pups and the sound gives a combination of rough and smooth penetrating kick; v good tone selection throughout options.

.Conceptually the design idea is great. Stage 1 and the boost however differ greatly in overall distortion output. Stage 1 being MUCH less than the boost, the boost sounds amazing. Still, it has great overall tone and I intend on continuing exploring its possibilities.

.When I tried this pedal when playing alone I wasn't particularly impressed and was ready to dismiss it as just another dirt pedal to add to all the others on the shelf but when used with the band it really shined. With the boost off (and the pre-gain on High-T) it's like a tube amp on the edge, touch sensitive and generally felt good (although with a low output guitar was a little weak). The boost channel with it's separate gain and output volume sounded great and was really versatile. For example if you want the cranked sound for chords and the edgy sound louder for leads no problem, or you can go with the usual more distorted is louder...
