Don't underestimate this, and if you're looking for a bit more shimmer and gain from your amplifier, this is the way to go. Treble boosters tend to be rather unpopular because of how much tweaking is really needed to get the good tone, but there's really no better way to push a good tube amplifier.
Can't really complain. I prefer my effects and boosters to be simple, usually one knob is enough. This one does one thing and one thing only. It fills a niche that creates sonic bliss. What more do you need?
EHX Nano brand quality. Bulletproof case, good build, made in the USA. I'm fairly certain it's just one little analog board in there, so it'd be tough to break it.
As for the sound, it's tricky. But then again, the best effects usually are. Putting it in front of a clean amplifier boosts the gain just a little, but boosts the treble so much that it overpowers the bass quite a bit, as some people have complained about. Put in front of an overdriven amp, however, is godlike. With a modern amplifier, it gives you an Iommi sounding top end supported by whatever low end your amplifier puts out. This thing completely shimmers the top end and soaks your gain with more clarity and depth. It's tricky because the perfect settings are tough to find. There's a bit range of tones within that one knob. But when you find it, you'll hear it. It's gorgeous.
EHX offers some of the best bang-for-your buck in the effects market today, this is no exception. $40 is a great deal, especially for that special tone-fixing pedal that just fills out my rig like this.

.I find this to be of limited value as a treble booster. The "highs" it adds are too raw to be of value. It actually destroys good tone. I am taking it off of my pedal board. I play British Invasion Rock and this thing had no place in a four-hour gig. It isn't a "musical" treble booster. Instead of adding treble, it adds screach.

.Jeez! This is NOT an OD/Boost (let alone a 'clean' or a 'balanced' Boost)--This pedal is specifically for treble notes in your solos to sound like 'pinch harmonics' (whether you pinched them or not). This unit needs to be placed *before* your distortion/preamp, by the way; unlike most OD/Boosts, which restore some top end after your Dist., has too much gas after the Dist. and just sounds shrill, 'grindy'. Placed before your distortion, though, this pedal's sweet-spot range is from 6-10 on the knob. No big volume boost, but with a hot bridge HB (JB, Pearly Gates, 496T, etc), your highs will wail. Personally, I get just as much out of this pedal playing chords/ostinatos in lower register as I do soloing high. I tried mine in front of a Radial ToneBone tube distortion, an 80s Rat, and a Fulltone PlimSoul; It's sticking with the PLimSoul, bridge-buckers, and no-loop tube amps. Worth twice its nominal price!

.Just enough treble and punch to make your leads stand out. Solid construction. Makes my tele scream... good value.

.it works better (to me) before others driver devices.
Electro-Harmonix Screaming Bird Treble Booster Guitar Effects Pedal
.I bought this expecting it to be an actual volume boost i could use when playing leads. It turns out it actually just cuts the bass frequency and boosts a certain band of high frequencies. This isn't really that useful to me when playing leads. I use it when there is a break in a song where i need a kind of lo-fi type sound, like a filter or something, for when my guitar needs to be less punchy. But it can be used as a lead boost if you experiment with its position in your signal path and fool around with the levels of your pedals and amp.

.it's more a bass cut pedal and it add a lot of noise. Even on my amp that is to muddy lol. The only way this pedal would be usable is if you threw out the PCB and built a new circuit in the chassis.
Electro-Harmonix Screaming Bird Treble Booster Guitar Effects Pedal
.Great bang for the buck. The effect is very simple but quite effective. Think of this as a "boosted stuck wah", but with the ability to control the output level. It boosts your upper midrange enough to overdrive your amp or give your OD pedal an extra kick. The effect is especially useful on strats, and I was able to get a great notched sound with the bridge+middle position and the tone rolled off just a bit. It seems to do better early in the effects chain -- either the very first or immediately after a compresor. Don't place after an OD/distortion pedal, or you'll get a screaming noisy mess. Also, this is an all-metal case (seems to be magnesium) and made in the USA. The footswitch is very tough and the overall design is quite rugged. Amazing considering the price.
Electro-Harmonix Screaming Bird Treble Booster Guitar Effects Pedal
.It's more of a bottom cut than treble boost but yields some interesting results when placed ahead of tube distortion. Like all EHX pedals it's built great and it's something every guitar player should own.
