Just got it today and you can Believe the hype. This is the best sounding distortion pedal I've ever used. I will add this caveat, I don't use many effects and never have. Until now the Maxxon OD9 was my favorite. I have, so far, used it on a 50 Watt JMP Mk 2 Master Model and I can only describe the sound as halfway between dimed JMP and the best sounding overdriven Orange amps. Its uncompressed with a fat midrange boost and a smooth, juicy saturated grind. The treble knob is actually useable across its whole taper. It made the neck pickup on my VOS Les Paul sound great at full on saturation levels. I tried it on a Fender 6G3 Brown Deluxe Clone - this is what I always hoped that amp could sound like "Brown" is the word. EHX products are high quality and made the USA. Do I recommend this pedal ? I will use up my next 5 recommnedations on this pedal

.I bought this pedal as soon as it showed up on Custom Guitars Friend, I have built and played many Klon Centaur pedals and thought for the price how could I go wrong to try one more. I am not disappointed.
This pedal has all the rich character of the Klon, while maybe it's a little more stiff so far as the responsiveness and feel goes it still trumps most pedals that are triple the cost. The buffer is a welcome addition and sounds as it should. It's a little darker than a klon and may have a little less of a bass bump BUT I can forgive it because it's been tweaked.
If you need a boost/low-medium gain overdrive forget many of those well known classics that have poor buffers that suck your tone and buy a Soul Food. It'll give you the right amount of rich low end, and high end sparkle to take any amp (especially one on the verge of breakup) to the next level.

.I gig 50-75 dates a year in the S.F. Bay Area doing Corporate Events, Wineries, Weddings and Private Clubs. The clients that hire us expect us to look and sound professional. As a result, I have to be picky about my guitar rig and tone. The "Soul Food" is a breath of Fresh Air in the Stomp Box world in my opinion, as it covers 95% of the pedal it is modeled after, and is a spectacular value.
Just set your amp just at the verge of Break-up, and use the Soul Food as a Lead Boost, (for a single channel amp), or use it in the front of your Signal Chain as a Buffer. Or, on a 2-Channel Amp, use it as Lead Boost/Tone Shaping tool. I've owned an original Klon since buying one new from the builder about 5 years ago, but because of the outrageous increase of value, it's not a pedal that leaves my Home Studio. With the Soul Food, I now have one of my most coveted pedals and Tone Shaping tools back on my board.

.Im so very impressed with this pedal. all the other OD pedals ive used seemed to color the tone so much that it was obvious to me i was using a pedal, not with this pedal. the switch inside for true bypass/Buffer is amazing it actually makes my guitar sound less harsh a lot more warm and responsive when the pedal is off and set to buffer. when on its the perfect OD tone and pushes my amp so very nicely.if your thinking about buying one but not sure if its worth it , i have to say go for it you will love it. its a must have for my rig from now on.

.Very nice sounding overdrive. I find it works much better pushing pedals than others I've tried. For example, it drives my Wampler Plexi Drive perfectly, adding crunch and tightness without any harshness or raising the floor noise.
On its own it helps to add meat to single notes and has a -lot- of clean boost. Playing with the drive knob it adds a somewhat dumble-esque sounding overdrive for soloing.
It's fairly well built, looks nice and has the power plug on top which helps a lot with cable layout on pedalboards.

.I love the sound of a Klon through a tube amp but don't have $2000 to buy one. I bought one of these to try out & liked it so much I bought 2 more. I had the chance to do a shootout with the Soul Food, a Klon KRT and a Kit-Klone (Boogie Monster) and was very pleased. The Soul Food did a very good job keeping up with both pedals. It was not exactly the same, but for the price no one in the audience would know the difference. The real Klon was a bit more transparent but the Soul Food was close. I bought these extra two to try some aftermarket mods out there. For the money you really can't go wrong if you like clean boost or medium overdrive. If you are looking for massive distortion, this isn't for you. If you amp sounds bad this pedal will not make it sound great. If you have a good base tone & want to make it sound bigger & better, this might be the pedal for you.

.This pedal blew away all my other overdrive/distortion pedals really quickly. It found its way on my pedalboard in a few minutes. However, it "broke" down after 3 months of playing. The "ON" signal works, it's when I want it "OFF" it kills the signal... I contacted EHX, their customer and repair services are really not impressive - in which they asked me to mail the pedal to Europe to have it fixed at my expenses... for a low value pedal? no thanks, I'll simply buy elsewhere. I really enjoyed those 3 months, but the lack of quality built and customer service turned me down to EHX products. If EHX wakes up and build their pedals stronger, I will recommend the Soul Food... Until then, I suggest you to spend your money elsewhere

.Like almost every pedal I've ever tried, the best sounds are found at way less than full throttle on the knobs. I'm also fairly certain that a little patience dialing in a sound you like will yield a satisfying outcome. Great value for the price , too.

.This pedal is a must have for any fans of traditional overdrive. It sounds very close to my dimed '77 Marshall JMP 2204, no kidding. Playing the Soul Food through a clean Fender combo at bedroom volume gets extremely close to sounds that I recorded with that Marshall.
One thing to note is that the pedal is VERY midrange heavy, and lacks some low end (a good thing for overdriven guitar IMHO). Modern metal players will probably want to pass on this one, but it would probably do well for Maiden, Priest, etc. The sweet spot is definitely 70's rock though, Queen, Stones, etc.

.I love love love this pedal. Run it in front of a Blues JR, I now have a 2 channel amp. Can be completely transparent, kicks my amp from clean to overdrive without coloring the sound. Crank up the drive and you get some great saturation.
