The sound and tone are so well done. The Taylor DN3 was harsh by contrast, and a bit of a mess frankly. The Taylor was very loud, and very twangy, and the high E string was painful (see wand picks the wizard). Last time I buy an instrument from review only and minor playing of a demo unit.

This Martin cutaway by comparison is everything the Taylor wasn't to me:

1) Comfortable. The Martin GPCPA4 is a great auditorium form factor that you feel like you can carry around with you. It sits nicely in your lap and the neck is just great. Just high marks here for general design.

2) Sound. The low end is deep and has punch. The mids and highs are perfectly blended. Each string is capable of generating a myriad of unique tones depending upon how you strum it, its almost organic and alive. The DN3 I had by contrast lacked the tight punch, and the upper octaves always wanted to scream. The Martin is well balanced and mannered.

3) Feel. The action and fret board are just so solid. Love the black Richlite, love the feel, fabulous. Very easy to play and nice to look at.
For me, its all about the instrument, I don't particularly care about the electronics. So from this standpoint, its a great guitar, that provides the option to plug in. The electronics may be entry level, but the design/placement of them is very well done.
I had a Taylor DN3 in my home for 3 hours before taking it back. Finding this little gem was truly a case of the wand picking the wizard (although I'm no wizard). Great materials, American made craftsmanship, and the cut of spruce is beautiful. By contrast, the Taylor I had was very harsh, I think my DN3 was a dud. Also, the lacquer finish on the DN3 appeared to be peeling off or chipping at the sound hole. The DN3 It was driving me crazy even though I wanted to love it. This Martin GPCPA4 by contrast is top notch. Solid feeling and top quality- like holding a piece of art in my hands. Very motivating to love this thing and try and make it sing.
Great price performance. Its an instrument for a lifetime. I don't think it will ever leave my family.

.Overall, as I have stated before, I am very happy with the price and quality of this guitar. I would rate it extremely close in quality to the Taylor 314 but keep in mind that this one is a completely different animal. It has that more traditional (yet slightly updated) Martin sound. One recommendation I would make is that you go and play one in person. Don't forget to plug it in and get a feel for the electronics. This is a great instrument and one that I will keep forever.
I purchased this guitar about 3 months ago and I have to say that I am extremely pleased with it so far. I own some much more expensive guitars (Martin D-18, Taylor 814-CE, Gibson Hummingbird) and I'm not going to tell you that this one is just as good as the rest. What I will say is that this is probably the best bang for your buck I have ever seen in an accoustic/electric guitar. American made solid top, sides, and back for several hundred dollars less than a Taylor 314. Tone is beautiful and the action is really smooth and it is a dream to play.

I honestly can't figure out how they are able to sell this at its current price point. I really think that Martin hit a home run with this one.
For this price range, I can't imagine giving this anything less than a perfect rating. Beautiful construction and exceptional sound.
Without a doubt, I'd say this guitar is hands down the best value for mid range priced guitars.

.ok. the bottom line is this: you can spend a small amount of money on a guitar that will soung good, and won't sound as good plugged in. or,you can buy this guitar and get the sound of an extreemly high end martin at a much lower price. this guitar's tuner s outstanding. it mutes the guitar when playing live, and it has very quick and easy acess too. i have played guitar for a long time, and i'm here to tell you that this is truly one of the best deals you can get for a GREAT guitar. and also the action on this guitar is very good too. and this guitar is truly beautiful sounding as well as looking. this guitar is good for things from playing at a resteraunt (which i do often), to playing concerts (which i also do). all in all, this is a great guitar to add to any collection. GREAT JOB MARTIN!

.If was to tell you all the things I like about this guitar or how much of a joy it is to play I would be here all day long..So I'm gonna keep it simple, You will not find an American made all solid wood guitar for this price, because there isn't one...each one is a work of art, and the feel and tone of this guitar are unbelievable...even if you bought one of these beauties online without ever playing one odds are you will be in love as soon as you hold it...

.So I originally bought the Martin OMCPA4. Being a dreadnought player the OMC didn't have the heavier bass that I love, but I wanted the Orchestra body style. So along comes the GPC. Definitely sounds more rich and robust than the OMC. Craftsmanship is flawless on the guitar. Sound is different though with excellent balance compared to the OMC and Dreadnought. This guitar seems like it will handle all types of music well. Excellent guitar, all solid tonewoods, Made in Nazareth, PA! Probably will be taking back the OMC now!

.Real simple. An AMERICAN made all SOLID wood guitar with pickup at this price is unheard of. Craftmanship was PERFECT, flawless. Of course I had to do a set up to my liking, but other than that it a tremendous value. Oh, beautiful sounding as well. For the money, the best AMERICAN guitar out there. My reference guitars are Marting HD28V, Martin HD35, Taylor 814CE so I have some pretty good stuff in my stable.

.I purchased this guitar 3 month ago. At first this guitar is very beautiful, umplugged it sounds really nice: the action, the tone, everything ok, but connected I found a big serious problem with the mic: E string didn't sound!!!??? yes, 6th string did not sound at the same lebel as the other 5 strings, how could I play this guitar live with less dbs at the E string?? big trouble, I had to replace the piezo mic with a AG Series from FIshman $ because the original piezo sucks!!!.

I like this guitar very much, but kind of dissapointed because a paid $ on this guitar and it is hard to believe that Martin company couldn't find anything better to put in. Another big trouble is the hardcase, chinnesse made I think, not a good one (handle is terrible), next time I will get a Taylor or gibson, more expensive guitars maybe, but much serious than Martin. Peace

.Bought from Guitar Center recently. Very nice guitar for the money. Looks like a Taylor but sounds like a Martin. Much better pickup than expression system. Plugged in to my Bose L1 Compact it really has a good sound. While the pickup is undersaddle, it works and provides a useable plugged in tone. Fit and finish is good. Typical Martin. Didn't get the right case with the guitar. Thanks Guitar Center. Working on a resolution. This will be a big seller for Martin once people put them in their hands. It is several hundred dollars cheaper than a Taylor 314CE which specs are similar.

.I got this guitar a little over a year ago and have had nothing but problems. First off, 6 months into it the electronics just quit working, called the factory they replaced them without any problems. Second, just recently I noticed that the neck was starting to separate from the body. This guitar doesn't leave the case, it's my baby so I was really concerned. I call the factory and they send me to a luthier nearby. He takes a look at it and decided the neck bolt needs to be tightened, he takes off the ID tag and notices the bolt was not even installed. It couldn't have fallen out considering its behind a glued piece of wood. I'm currently waiting for the bolt to come in the mail. Definitely need to work on their quality control. last martin I will ever buy. Selling it and buying a Breedlove
