I played around with it. At first I thought it needed a battery, so I replaced it. It sounded the same. It was very noisy, with a loud hisssss when you played the strings hard. I had to find just the right playing attach to even hear filter effect, or that nice "duck" sound they are suppose to have. It was to noisy to use with-out the "bass" switch engaged, and then I felt it let through so much or the frequencies, you heard the effect even less. With this subtle a sound, I can get better from just about any other filter effect.

.This is a fairly misunderstood little wonder. I'm not saying it's the best envelop filter out there bu t certainly worth a consideration.I use it for bass and I love the low frequency pass through. I don't use a pick. A couple of suggestions. It requires a fairly hot input. Passive instruments may want to throw something before this pedal. Ok, the inside: Take the screws off the back and the back plate.Find a miniature flat head screw driver. Put it in a very small hole on the circuit board with a white turning adjuster.Open the frequency range to max in the front of the pedal.Plug your instrument in and start playing making VERY small adjustments to the screw driver.Once you find the sweet spot, this pedal automatically adjust to your playing on the strings. It's actually a lot of fun. The sound guy even came up and asked what he was hearing on the bass saying it was putting a smile on his face and let me tell you, he's very hard to please. It's a subtle affect and I like that. It auto adjusts with how hard I play. Give it a chance before you return it. It's not bad for the money. It's super easy to carry and fairly indestructible, built like a tank.Happy funkin'

.I always used this or the older bigger one for a very "subtle" filter effect, playing through the neck pickup of my strat with the treble backed off a tiny bit. I've always used a boost or compressor with the vol up in front of it, because its always sucked volume, although this version is infinitely better than the black hole of tone that the older version was. I haven't found a wah/filter/effect pedal wether it be boutique or mass produced, that does the sound this pedal does. I'm not saying its my favorite pedal, and its not always on, but I do like the couple of sounds that I use it for. Its also very good for the times that I record my bass for solo projects... worth the money.

.This envelope filter is truly abysmal; I don't even know where to start. First of all, it cuts your signal volume like crazy if the bass switch isn't turned on. When you actually use the bass switch, you can barely hear the filter. The filter itself sounds absolutely horrendous; it is ear piercing destruction and goes nowhere close to achieving the trademark "quack" sound. It sounds more like a cocked wah pedal rather than an envelope filter. Don't waste your money! This pedal is trash!!

.I purchased this pedal new from a local store and ended up returning it within hours. Although it may look cute, and also come in a very sturdy package, the positive aspects of the Dr. Q end here. I tried this pedal on several basses and electric guitars with both active and passive electronics to no avail. While toggled in guitar mode the sound was terribly distorted and the signal from the basses and guitars was cut to an almost inaudible point. Toggling the switch up to bass mode didn't help matters as turning the attack knob did nothing but, again, cut the volume and further kill the tone. All in all, the Dr. Q didn't produce a single sound that had any semblance to any envelope filter/follower. If you're on a budget then might I suggest the DOD FX25B or the Ashdown's Bass Envelope Filter. If You have more money to through around try looking into a Haz Mutron III+ or an EH Micro Q-tron. Hope this helped.

.I've been a professional session player for the past 35 years and have never come across a pedal as deplorable a the Dr. Q. In fact if your reading this now and are interested you can go fetch mine out of San Francisco Bay, as I chucked it out of the window as I was entering the bay area! My rig is a Gallien-Krueger 2001RB head bi-amped to an SBX 410 cab and a SBX 115 cab. I tried the Dr. Q on my American P-Bass, Jaco Pastorius Fretless Jazz, as well as on my Musicman Stingray, each time with the same result! FAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT!!!Literally, what a fart in the wind. Electro-Harmonics should be ashamed of themselves for putting out this piece of garbage - I was given a complementary one by the company! First and foremost this pedal comes nowhere close to sounding like an envelope filter. The only thing this FX box is capable of is cutting your highs, distorting your lows, and completely ruining your tone! If you want your precious gear to sound as if you bought it from Toys-R-Us then by all means buy this clunker otherwise look elsewhere. Unfortunately, good envelope filters are few and far between these days. If you can get your hands on a vintage mutron III (NOT the Haz Mutron III+), I've had mine since 1973 and haven't had to service it once! They're keepers!

.i listened some demos on the web and it sound so far cool. i bought mine and it was a bummer. At first i thought it was broken, but then i realize it has some response to my playing, but it turns out to be very difficult to get the "duck" sound or any other wah wah effect. While playing through out a class A 5 watts amplifier i got virtually non response and just noise, very low duck sound when i crank it up. such a disappointment and waste of money

.I bought this a few days ago, and there is nothing wrong with it. It's gives the tone I was looking for in it. And I have no regrets buying it, and the price is amazing! I use it for bass and I'm still experimenting with it and combinations of other pedals. If you want that funk sound like Bootsy Collins, go ahead and buy it.

.first let me say i love Electro-Harmonix. BUT, unless i got a broken one this pedal does nothing except cut your tone. with the bass switch off you have ZERO low end, so it has to be engaged all the time. however, the knob that is suppose to adjust the "Q" of the sweep does almost nothing. the pedal completely robs you of your tone, volume is almost cut in half, and there is almost no audible effect. if you already have the regular Q-tron do yourself a huge favor and NEVER SELL IT. or at least avoid this pedal.

.Take note: there is an internal trimmer that must be tweaked if you want this pedal to sound good (see the review below for info). However, once you've done that, this pedal really is worth a try. Sure, it's a subtle effect and a simple control setup, but if you know what you're doing it's a great bit of EH goodness. On a side note, the die-cast case makes it incredibly tough...feel free to stomp on this little guy.
