The Electro-Harmonix Micro Q-Tron Envelope Follower Effects Pedal is everything you love about the Mini Q-Tron, in an even smaller, rounded-corner die-cast case! The Micro Q-Tron is a unique type of sound modifier, in which the user's playing style controls the effect. The volume of the input signal (also called the envelope) controls the cutoff frequency of a swept filter. As the volume increases or decreases, so does the pitch of the filter.
Controls
Drive Control - The filter sweep sensitivity control. Determines the width of the filter's sweep range by the input signal. Produces more sweep when it's turned clockwise.
Q Control &ndash Determines the frequency peak of the filter. Creates a more dramatic effect when turned clockwise.
Mode Switch (LP, BP, HP)-Determines what frequency range the filter will pass through. Emphasizes lows in LP (Low Pass), midrange in BP (Band Pass), and highs in HP (High Pass).
Footswitch - Engages and disengages the effect.
Connections - Connect your instrument to the Input jack and your amplifier to the Output jack.
Power - The Micro Q-Tron is powered by either a 9V battery or an optional Electro-Harmonix US96DC-200BI 9VDC Guitar Effects Power Supply. Inserting a cable into the Input jack engages the battery. For longer battery life disconnect the input cable when not in use.
Playing The Micro Q-Tron
The Micro Q-Tron's effect is controlled by the user's playing dynamics - a stronger attack will yield a more dramatic effect, while softer playing will produce more subtle effects. Use the full range of control settings in combination with different playing techniques to obtain a number of different and unique effects combinations.

I'd tried a few filters before I settled on this one, and it did not disappoint. The only reason I got this particular model was because of its small footprint, but it does everything I need it to. Supposedly, it's a clone of the original Mu-tron, and since I was looking for Jerry Garcia-esque tones I decided this was the pedal to get. A previous review said that it was only good for single coils, but I disagree. I have a really hot humbucker in the bridge of my Tele, and on the HP setting with Q and drive at 1:00, I can get classic Jerry tones (Fire on the Mountain, Estimated Prophet, etc.) if I back the guitar's volume off a bit. When I run this into my OD, I can get awesome, dirty, quacky tones (think Steve Kimock), and when I run this through my Digitech EX-7's Leslie modeler, It sounds amazing. I would recommend this little filter to anyone.

.I wanted the original Mu Tron sound. I wanted the Jerry sound he had for all those years of ground breaking sound. so i did a little reserch to figure out the best Envelope filter there is that is affordable and closest to the Mu Tron. The original creator of the Mu Tron III built the Q Tron for Mike Matthews (EH founder) with the same analog circuitry as the Mu Tron thus keeping the sound as close to the original as possible but with a couple of features for the new mellennium. the Q Tron features the same controls as the Mu Tron but with a Boost switch for the true Mu Tron sound, almost identical. With that said, i cannot say this pedal, the Micro Q Tron will have as close a sound to the original Q Tron but if you want the closest sound to the original Mu Tron, buy a vintage musitronics Mu Tron or the Q Tron.

.This thing sounds great. I love it for stuff that sounds like RHCP, basically. However.. not sure this is built very well since in the first 3 weeks it went straight to Bypass and right as that happened, my cord from the bass to the pedal stopped working.

.I don't know if I bought a defective unit or what, but I could not get a decent sound out of this thing...tried it before my compressor, after my compressor, before my distortion, after my distortion, in line, in my fx loop, and could not get anything even close to a decent tone out of it. I know that Electro-Harmonix stuff is cheaply made (hence the affordable price) but I expect it to work at least for a little while when I buy it brand new.

.Easy to use, plug in and play. Capture the sound sound of Garcia's Fire on the Mountain and Estimated Prophit from Cornell University May 1977. I have read reviews of this unit not living up to other envelope filters, like EMMA and others - I have never played them, but this filter does the trick. Easy to use, and it gives you the best bang for the buck. Buy this and you won't be dissappointed!

.This was my first envelope filter and I have to say for the price I payed it was definitely well worth it. It`s good at copying the tones of it`s older brothers, but in a much more manageable package. I`ve actually been so pleased with it that I`ve had little desire to go out and try other filters to see if I find something better (although that new one from MXR has caught my interest some). Anyways, if you`re looking for something nice and cheap to give you some great funk tones then this is definitely it.

.Pedal sounds ok with a strat and did not work at all with humbuckers. After 3 months it broke! EH wanted me to ship it back to them with a check for the repair and return shipping for $12. Forget it, this is the best you can do for a customer with a brand new faulty pedal. DO SOME RESEARCH! These pedals are failing and problematic. I ended up buying a different pedal from Hartman.

.This Pedal is great. It's the best sounding Envelope filter I have ever used.Compared to other filters I have used, you get that Funky swirl of tonal spice as soon as you step on it. Easy to dial in sweet tones. The only thing I dont like is the price of this pedal). But I think its deffinatley worth it!

.Dialing in the right setting(s) for your own set-up and guitar type is key with this great pedal. I run all knobs at 1 o'clock (first knob on low bypass for that meatier response). Light pick stroke to medium hard pick stroke sets this thing meowing away with those funky cat noises one expects from an envelope follower/filter. It has a significant volume boost when activated - so just back off the volume knob on your guitar before activating if you don't need the boost. But sometimes the boost is convenient and welcome so you immediately stick out during solo time - so that's not necessarily a con here. Really cool pedal - sweet addition, it finished my arsenal. Run it directly after distortion pedals in your chain. Frees you up from being tied to a manual wah pedal too ... especially when you feel a Pete Townsend jump comin on.

.I purchased this as a gift for a professional keyboardist/pianist of some twenty years in the making. The sheer amount, let alone quality, of tones he was able to generate with this pedal was quite literally awesome. A+
