I have very mixed feelings about this guitar. Over all this guitar gets very average marks. However, it does have the potential to be a monster axe. The B. C. Rich Mockingbird Pro X Custom with some tweaks could easily become your No. 1. Full disclosure I am a huge Mockingbird fan, I have a Mockingbird tattoo. But it is going to take some work before I am a fan of the Pro X Custom.

Let's talk about the pros of this guitar first. The B. C. Rich Mockingbird Pro X Custom is a beautiful guitar. Today we are reviewing the trans red mahogany guitar with a gorgeous quilt maple top. Adding to the esthetics are a bound body, neck and headstock. The binding work is meticulous with very tight seams.

The 24 fret neck has slick diamond inlays along it's rosewood fingerboard. The neck is set with a very smooth flat joint that gives easy access to the upper frets.

The bridge is a more that serviceable Floyd Rose special. The Floyd came well setup and intonated nicely. The action was a tad too high for shred but more that low enough for the majority of players. An easy enough to fix issue. This is about where this guitar stops shining.

The first disappoint with this guitar is the tuners. They look nice enough one quick turn of the tuners confirms looks can be deceiving. I could feel a bit of play in the tuners before the gear would engage. This was not in one tuner but a characteristic in all in the set.

The disillusion continued when plugging in the guitar. The active B.C. Rich active humbuckers leave a lot to be desired. They are thin sounding and lack luster. Knowing the audience of this guitar, these pickups are not going to get you kids the high gain tones you are searching out. Popping the pickups in the middle position to get a bit more bottom gave me more bass. It also resulted in a huge lack of string definition. I am not a fan of active pickups. What surprised me was I don't think active pickup fans will be too happy with the tone of this guitar.

When purchasing this guitar I knew the active electronics would be gutted. There is a high gain prototype alnico 6 waiting to be placed in this beast. What I didn't know then but I do know now is the tuners will also have to be upgraded. With a few upgrades this will be a fantastic guitar. However it is very average out of the box.

.Three Ninety Nine is about what these guitars are at all worth, don't ever pay more, they aren't worth it. They are far from fine instruments, and aren't good for anything more than shredding. The stock pickups are complete junk...I replaced mine with a Zakk Wylde EMG set and it woke up the tone. Its an ultra-shredder now, but trying to get any other type of tone out of it (even before the PU change) is impossible. It just wants to rock and that's it. A good guitar for metal/hard rock, but realize its a one trick pony.

.This is my first BC Rich so I was not sure what to expect. The shape was a concern but I gave it a chance anyway.

First the pro's:

Out of the box it looked great. Set-up was fine and all it needed was tuning.
The shape fits me to a tee. It sits just right. It is perfect for me.

Other reviews mention fret buzz but none on mine.

The middle pick-up setting is interesting. Both volume and tone controls work on the middle selection and are very responsive. I now use the middle position for most everything. There is so much more control over the tone versus just the bridge pick-up or just the neck pick-up. Of course there is always the bite of the bridge pick-up or the bottom end of the neck pick-up with just a flick of the switch.

All hardware looks good and the chrome shines.

The finish is flawless and the white binding on the gloss black really sets it off. The frets are finished quite nice.

The cons:

No paperwork was included. No instructions about the Floyd Rose, no warranty card, no set up or maintenance instructions. For a new player this could be an issue.
The odd shape makes it a challenge to set it in a regular guitar stand. Because of the balance of weight you must be careful when setting the guitar down. A guitar stand with a neck holder would help.

All in all the guitar is a hands down winner and gets 4 and 1/2 bangs on the Banger scale. It did not get a perfect 5 because of the of the missing paperwork.

If this baby is calling you to take it home you won't be disappointed.

.Now listen, a simple neck adjustment is needed for fret buzz. The buzz usually happens during shipping and is caused by temp changes. There are many you tube videos on how to do this, if you don't want to do it on your own, take it to your local music store where they most likely will have someone there who can do the adjustment for you. Remember Fret Buzz is not a defect....you all need to learn how to set up your guitar, very handy to know. Cheers...........

.Until this year I have been a U.S.A. made snob. This guitar plays just as well if not better than some I have owned for twice the money. Only weak spot is the electronics. You can tell the tone is there. I think a set of Duncans will complete the package.

.Fit and finish on this guitar is flawless, I looked it over very carefully and found absolutely nothing wrong with it. Most of the time I can find something to complain about but not this time. The setup out of the box is perfect with nice low action and no fret buzz anywhere on the neck. This is guitar number 20 for me and of the 7 purchased online this is the 2nd one that did not require at least some work, All it needed was a quick tuning. The pickups sound great, I am very surprised by just how nice this guitar looks and how well it sounds and plays.
The pickups sound good clean and have a nice punch to them when using the overdrive channel.
I have been playing for 45 years now and have acquired 10 tube amps over the years so I'm not judging this guitar using a practice amp.

.What a beautiful guitar. From the way it looks to the way it plays this guitar was well worth the money.

Slight fret buzz on the low E, nothing a good setup won't fix.

Was very surprised to get such a great sounding, great playing guitar for the price. The finish and binding that is found on much more expensive guitars. Love the playability.

.I bought this guitar as a "Deal Of The Day" and the first one that came had a broken horn on it and was obviously a used guitar, but they refunded my money quickly so I could buy another and trusted me to send the other back. 2 days later a "Perfect" one arrived and I have been satisfied ever since. If you have the money opt for the "Pro-X, Not Pro-X Custom as the quality is just that bit better to a professional who is very hardware picky. I use this guitar to just jam and have fun on and like dive-bombing with the Tremelo. There is nothing negative to say about the guitar itself, but you will need a setup as BC Rich sucks at giving you a guitar ready ton play out of box.

.This Guitar came with everything needed and set up for playing straight out of the box with very little tuning needed. I immediately found that the guitar was slightly lighter than I expected, and was extremely comfortable. The fret buzz is an easy fix. The pickups appear to be slightly weak with little bass, but decent for this guitar (May be difficult to get that deep heavy sound and those screaming harmonics, that I would figure this guitar would be chose for). The finish seems slightly darker than seen on here, but I feel it suits the guitar a little better and the chrome finish matches beautifully. The tuning knobs engage slightly after they had been turned, but not so bad that it would become annoying. I was surprised that mine came with a calendar though? The Floyd Rose Special doesn't seem to have the same tuning and other problems that I have had and experienced in the past with the sinister gates custom and I feel that the Floyd rose would be difficult to the players without any experience about it. I found it to be one of the best guitars I have had the pleasure of playing so far. I didn't like the fact that it came without any papers such as: warranty card, receipt(receipt is emailed to you), or instructions. Bottom line is that this guitar is an absolute beauty, and will I will never grow tired of this guitar. It is made for absolute shredding and I will suggest this guitar for anyone looking for a great addition to their arsenal.
